Gentle reminder a football game isnt 30 minutes long and if you lose 4-1 then id argue the first 30i s minutes is pretty irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Ultimately football is a results business and they are what you live and die by.

Once we went 2-1 down, I'd have just changed formation and threw on some randoms, why not.

Some of those lads sit on that bench every week and never get a chance.

Are you serious? We were playing really well but you just want to yolo it and throw in Shahar and Alex Murphy because we were down 2-1 due to some clinical finishing?

I always think we should give up the League Cup when we are having Euro completion. Not only to Newcastle, but all the teams that qualify for Europe.

Other than League Cup we should be trying all of them. The two leg format really makes League Cup the worst in terms of “cost-efficiency”.

There's one round of two legs ffs. The potential risk of that one extra game means we shouldn't even try? Jesus, glad our management doesn't think like that.

What really annoys me about these games is that especially this season, we’ve seen far worse team than us go to Anfield and get a result, or a narrow loss.

Every time we go there, we get hammered regardless. It’s almost expected that we will concede 3+.

the above applies to the Etihad as well, it’s a real problem.

And don't me started about how fucking bad we are at defending transition's.

404.

Yeah was lazy to pull from search. But basically we leave too much space when pushing forward. The defence lacks protection. We can't afford to have all midfielders push high and have both fullbacks high.

We lack discipline basically.

Our midfield and defense are so bad at times it’s not even funny. Our squad is just not very great. Doesn’t help when we gift goals all over the shop.

That's apart of the issue Kanji. The gaffa has bought most or what we saw at great expense.

😀 shows how much attention I’ve been paying! To be honest, I did think we were out - no idea how the new format works. But yeah, when we’re out. Same point applies, just means we’ve got longer to wait for our form to turn the corner.

Fuck me sideways

Sack the manager and start over. Which may not be bad idea. But where does PSR go here?

Dropout has always been spot on about this. We take no gambles bc clearly the goal for Howe is to finish where we have under him. Sadly Eddie been let down by his bosses time and again. And he’s let himself down with this shambles of a summer spending the Isak money on Wissa and Wolte.  Love and rate both but they aren’t it.

so then who improves us and reps us better then our big man?

Double edged sword really. Bring someone new in and no guarantee he fancies half of this squad - which essentially means ripping up all the work the club's worked towards the last few years. It's all just gone a bit stale, from higher ups, to our football, to our manager. Testing times for the club.

This is the first season under Howe where our overall performance matches our wage bills. I think we're 8th highest for total wage bill?

Well, we will likely finish 8-10, which is within that range, accounting for luck/randomness/injuries.

Throw in a possible visit to the final 16 of the UCL as a very nice addition.

Howe over-achieved, and wrung out the absolute most from his squads, every season with us till now.

What he needs is:

- more backing from the scouts to find better players in the 10-20m pound range

- a willingness to refresh his inner circle of staff and coaches (fresh ideas are needed, as we now risk staleness)

Individually I think they are all great players. I believe the tactics just can't get them to gel.

Newcastle United always go to Anfield defeated.

Like last year , we pick an XI and formation that almost excuses defeat before it's happened, and recognises that it is unlikely we get a result so we may as well avoid injuries and try something different for the sake of it.

Got the tactics right for me. First half great with a real 1-2 suckerpunch knocking the wind out of our sails. 2nd half pretty abject. Frustrating as I feel like the PSG game and the first half of this one show big signs of improvement in our away performances, but the result here was grim given the context of how shit Liverpool have been recently. Real "just get through it and go again in the summer" feel to this season, which is wild considering where we are in all 4 competitions still.

Feels like this for me as well, i just hope, for the rest of the season, we start to see some signs of real improvement to take into the summer. If we continue as we have this season then i am not sure where we go.

I don’t see where the improvements are coming from to get the near top 6, progress further in the FA Cup/CL or even just suddenly start playing well on a more consistent basis.

However, I said a month or so back. That after being so wrong last season after Brentford away. It would be daft to underestimate him again.

I can’t see what changes and I’m

not confident. Not in the league, anyway. As there are so many factors at play as to why I think we’ll struggle. A lot of those aren’t really even on Howe. But he has definitely, 100% got this season at least. To try and right some wrongs.

People in here have been saying it’ll “click” and we’ll have our “Brentford moment” since November, based on nothing other than, “he’s done it before”.

I’ve seen no progress from this team since the early weeks of the season and nothing to think it’s coming.

I hope it does, but we’ve had about 8 possible Brentford moments and absolutely nothing to show for it.

We’re now on a run of 1 win in 6 games with incredibly tough fixtures to come. He simply has to change it or we’re in danger of getting no European football whatsoever.

To keep moving forward we simply must get European football every season. It’s the absolute minimum. We can’t rely on historical commercial income to bail us out like Man Utd.
