Folk are blind like. When do you ever see Keegan referred to in mainstream media as the guy who effecovely made modern day NUFC modern day NUFC?

The clips you always see of him on mainstream media are his arm over an asvertising board as we lose 4-3 and when he says "I would live it if we beat them" and subsequently did not win the league.

Mainstream media does not remember he took us from the doldrums and made us what we are. I don't like that either. Keegan is my hero too, but Howe will be remembered for winning a cup and breaking our baron speel before Keegan is from outside the NUFC community.

All in all - it doesn't really matter. Folk should support Howe.

I don’t think League Cup wins are remembered outside of the club which wins them.  Any English football fan who was around in the ‘90s remembers that side - without looking it up, how many can name the League Cup winners that season?  (Again, outside the club which won it).  The anoraks amongst us can - but the average punter will have no clue.

Outside of the UK, the League Cup isn’t really known about.

I seriously doubt that anyone will be talking about Newcastle’s league cup win (outside of Newcastle) next year, let alone in a couple of decades.

Love Eddie. Think he’s dignity and class personified.

I think his biggest mistake tonight was in starting Wissa.

In respect of the bigger picture, the disjointed mess we’re all seeing now is as a result of;

1) The summer being a total clusterfuck.

2) ZERO time on the grass which is where he does his best work.

3) The lack of structure above him since Staveley left.

We’ve also got to remember that he’s never experienced 2-3 games per week in his previous management roles so this is all learning to him too. When we were in the CL a couple of years ago, it was his first time and now he’s got that responsibility with a totally dysfunctional front 3.

Given European football is likely not going to happen next year, I’d ask you, who do you back to take us back there playing one game per week? I can’t think of anyone better. Genuinely.

I’d wager we’ll be top 4/5 next year when only playing once per week.

He’ll have also learnt from the last summer too. Tonali will be shipped early, he’ll have been working with Wilson on incomings.

I feel we have to back him through to the beginning of next season personally.

Last summers window was a disgrace but he’s intelligent enough to know that imho and if wasn’t all on him.

But it's not mad to say that Keegan will only remembered as a failure outside of Newcastle?

Some of you guys are weird.

Im sure some will but I’d say you’re a fucking moron and wouldn’t take your view as a serous opinion, context is everything especially when today short term memories are more prevalent than ever.

I’ll say again I don’t care what other clubs fans think about what my club are. Much like I’d expect the same way.

Aye. Perhaps you're right. But winning one of the countries major honours should come above being entertaining runners up.

I don't give a shit if our team give folk a nice day out and some entertainment tbh. I care that Newcastle is the best team in a competition. That matters to me because Newcastle upon Tyne is the greatest city on earth in my mind.

Football personifies that. Winning a cup personifies that. Being entertaining and losing means we were canny but not good enough to be considered the best.

Perhaps wrongly stated...he will be remembered for his failure to win the league rather than as a failure. If that's on my previous comment... apologies. This was my intent.

I agree - but if it isn’t entertaining and it isn’t going to be a winning side then there’s going to be a problem.  That’s where we are at present - the football has been lacking in entertainment value and in addition to that we look very, very frail.  We look liked an uncoached mess at the moment.  I liked Howe’s comments after the game, because it means he acknowledges it too - but that can’t go on forever.  It’s absolutely ridiculous that a club this size went so long without a trophy, and Howe will be always remembered by the support as the man who ended that run - but big clubs don’t rest on that.  It buys him time, but it doesn’t buy him immunity from criticism.

No idea what you are trying to say here. But my "mad" post was only a response to someone coming with that claim in a Keegan vs Howe discussion.

See we’re getting misty eyed over the entertainers again. I’m 40 this year and seen us win something once. I remember crying in the 90s when we lost. The entertainers were failures.

Id kill for someone as likeable as miggy to be playing for us.

Maybe remember that feeling when Eddie has been replaced by some has-been twat like Mourinho and he's pissing everyone off and arguing with refs every week and the football's shite anyway

Yeah but.. folk wanna see goals right. There's still plenty of them. I could be wrong but I'm sure I read a stat recently that details we score and concede more than Keegans side...

He is not immune from criticism. Nor should anyone be. Yet in tonight's engagements folk are repulsed by the fact I suggest Keegan was a hero in our eyes but not in anyone else's. He won nothing for us. Yet Howe is 3/4 wins from a third CL qualification in 5 years and folk will happily wade in on him. Despite going further than what Keegan could achieve in winning a trophy.

KK wasn’t immune either tbf.  I don’t understand vitriol being poured on Howe, the man deserves respect, but the performances so far this season wouldn’t have been readily accepted at any time over the last few decades let alone post-takeover.

KK and Howe are both NUFC legends - I wouldn’t worry about how either are viewed elsewhere.
