Well 'Sensible Sunderland' that's one theory. But have you ever considered the possibility that a lad from North Shields may just genuinely be a passionate Newcastle fan?

We all know deep down why Sam Fender tortures their cold, barren souls. They do too.

There is simply no other successful mainstream artist in the world who has such an intrinsic connection with a sports team. Newcastle United is synonymous with Sam Fender, he flies our flag everywhere he goes, there'll be Sam Fender fans in America for example who won't have a clue about the PL but they'll like us because of Sam Fender, likewise, his name was on the back of our shirts during our finest hour.

Yeah I know the Gallagher brothers are big City fans, Ed Sheeran is balls deep in all things Ipswich and Elton John owns Watford etc but how many Ipswich shirts are you likely to see at an Ed Sheeran concert, how many Watford flags get flown at an Elton John concert? Newcastle and Sam Fender go hand in hand and it sickens the mackems cause they know they don't have anyone or anything that compares nor will they ever.

They hate that Geordie culture exists and is well known outside the region. There is no such thing as Mackem culture, everything they do is a tacky imitation of us.

They're seriously unhinged

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Imagine the equivalent of their weird Sam Fender obsession - one of us turning up to Wembley with a “Love Dan Burn, hate Lauren Laverne” flag, where she’s being beheaded by BDB and people posing with it.

Complete hillbilly freaks. J D Vance FC.

Might be sounding like a mackem here and one for unpopular opinions no doubt but I think this is a bit cringe/lame and would rather he wasn't so intertwined with it.

I’ll be honest I’d never heard of him before he started aligning with our club. I don’t think he’s particularly big outside the UK.

Still, love the passion and he seems to be a source of pride for the City so all power to him. Very strange and funny that he seems to trigger an entire fanbase too.

This.

I don't go out my way to listen to him or follow his every move, but who wouldn't love to see a local lad, "one of your own", do well for himself.

Agreed. Find the whole love-in a bit odd to be honest. He's seemingly a canny lad that makes passable pop music and supports Newcastle- fine. It doesn't have to be more than that.

The lads immensely talented, writes & performs some quality music, is passionate about his area, his football team & his friends, I love the fact he's not afraid to show his allegiances to the all of those, 3 concerts in his home town stadium will inevitably help him & his clubs finances, what's not to like ?

Who wouldn't do what he doing in his position ?

I just find all of this deeply, deeply odd.  It’s the behaviour of weirdos.  Surely this shite is being called out by some of them?  I feel embarrassed on their behalf.  Cringe doesn’t even begin to cover it

I like fender he's funny.

ADHD behaviour,  this is totally normal, attached to something that gives you comfort, passionate about things you love. Probably had things boxed off for years and is truly able to express himself however he wants right now, more power to the lad, too many 'normal' people wouldn't have a clue!

Have no knowledge of music so no idea what he's like but what I've seen of him in interviews and stuff he seems dead canny

As for the Mackems, they are unhinged, they go on about people being "massive lads fans" (is there a more cringey term than that) and they lap that up but if anyone dares show their support for Newcastle then they flip their lid, utter clowns

I don’t know the ins and outs of Sam Fenders support of Newcastle however this reaction when Shearer signed his guitar in 2019 and his reaction last night when Dan Burn was saying his lyrics while holding the cup are reactions you just can’t fake

His arse dropped when he met Shearer back then - same as any of us would. 😊

It doesn't matter how angry or upset they get, or claim that it's sad/weird/pathetic behaviour, this has undoubtedly been a monumental success for both the city and the club and will have brought millions into the local economy.  I was fortunate enough to end up with tickets for two of the three dates and on both days the city centre had such a good feel about it from early on.  Most bars were busy from mid-afternoon and packed out by teatime.  The buzz about the whole city was just brilliant and it was wonderful to be part of it all - it was Newcastle at its very best and it was one of those times when you can really appreciate just how blessed we are to live here.

A pack of goons ten miles down the road who are bashing vitriol into a spunk-stained keyboard can never change any of this.  If this is what "Geordiefication" is all about that lets have a whole load more of it please.
