Xaka and Roofs there, looking like they are trying to qualify for 'up the arse corner' on Loaded magazine from the 90s:

Well done for using 'unc'.

Sums up the absolute state of xG as a stat.

Absolutely meaningless in reality, which is what football is played in.

You’ve seen them play as well though right? We’re not aspiring to be that and if we are (as a fan base) something has gone wrong.

This aftermath is just a collective pissing the bed.

You pretending to be a fan of Newcastle might be up there. Enjoy it pal, you've been waiting your entire life, bank holiday weekend, beautiful weather etc. etc.

Think it's probably an exception that proves the rule. Similar to Villa with their penchant for long rangers.

No confidence at all we’ll close the gap at all.

They’ve got

- a setup that has a great talent ID track record and get deals done at sensible prices.

- a bunch of talent they can sell on for big profit, if needed.

- real characters in the team that gets them through games they’d otherwise lose.

- a fantastic defensively-minded coach that grinds them through points.

- pragmatic sense of what the team needs and when.

- an underdog spirit.

They will be able to attract a good calibre of player with European football and their networking.

It will soon turn toxic.

They will always be a selling club, it's a very undesirable place to play football.

Aye, I loved watching us go 14 games without a win under Bruce, sat in the stands smirking to myself about how no one else around me knew that I'm not actually a Newcastle fan

Results are what matters at the end of the day, don’t see any point in underestimating them.

I can’t be arsed to check the stats, but guessing Chelsea had more of the ball, XG etc. but you just knew Sunderland would win, because they have the character (that Chelsea don’t) in their team to get them through and that can often be the decisive difference.

It's a good indicator, though. Remember our season after finishing 5th balancing Europe and PL and that was with a far better side. They'll need to keep their key players and sign 4-5 of the same quality. Big ask.

Wonder if a bookie would give odds on no foreign side knocking an English side out of the Europa League like this season, as I don't see it being any different next year (same for Brighton in the Conference).

You seriously wouldn't fancy Leverkusen, Marseille, or one of the Italian clubs against Bournemouth or the mackems over two legs?

Marco Silva at Benfica could be tricky as well.

Be interesting to see if they kick on, clearly got a good manager and DOF who is all over the European leagues.

If you’re a young player in the French league say and can play in the Europa League under Le Bris, it could get even more embarrassing for us this summer if we’re shopping in a similar market for players.

Could just as easily see them getting relegated next season with the extra games, but their recruitment is next level to ours, so wouldn’t be surprised to see them do well again.
