KaKa
The funny thing about this whole Man City business is how irresponsible they've been with some of their young talents that would be big time contributors and options for them right now. They currently have no young, energetic alternatives to their key players Rodri, DeBruyne and Haaland. And recently have given away Lavia, Palmer and Delap. None of who really got enough of a chance. Imagine those three being brought through in their squad right now.

Regarding Palmer he's far more creative than Foden, and would have been more of a natural alternative to DeBruyne. Foden can't play that kind of role. Kovacic is a really more of a box to box midfielder too and doesn't really play that holding role as well as Lavia does.

Imagine those three being brought through in their squad right now. They spent 120 mill euros on Doku and Nunes last season, while selling Palmer for 47m.. Gvardiol in for 90m, massive price, but he has been good enough. This summer was strange. They sold players for a total of 141 mill euros, but yet all they got was Savinho for 25m euros and Gundo for free. Their net spent for the last 2 seasons is close to 0 in transfer fees. What's going on with that? Is their wage budget and ammortization from older signings causing trouble for them in terms of PSR? They should have lots of price money aswell. midds
Wonder if City look to freshen that CM area up in January. Did Bruno's release clause lapse totally in June or was it replaced?
Erikse
This is purely based on transfer fees, they've obviously spent a lot more in other ways. 10 teams in the league has spent more on transfer fees in the last 5 years. Those teams include Forest, West Ham and even Palace(!). Even Ipswich gets kind of close just with their summer window before this season. I don't think they will panic and overspend in an expensive january window, it's not like they are that depserate for another league win (especially being that far behind anyways), but I also wonder why they are not spending more. That's not what I'm doing. I'm saying it's far too early to judge, but also factoring in that the team we're discussing have staff and players that have been there and done it again and again. If Man City pick up a couple of top players in January including a DM, will you reverse your write-off? Since that could easily happen your write-off is completely meaningless. It's getting your prediction in early for the sake of getting it in early.

They won't change completely and go crazy just incase they have a small chance of catching up. They're not acting like Chelsea, and even if they were, it doesn't necessarily work. It took Chelsea a long time to make it work, and they bought some seemingly great players. Quick fixes are very hard to pull off in january, for any team. Looks like they're playing that towering 6 ft 7 Nigerian striker they signed from Belgium a few years back and then hardly used. Should be an entertaining watch. Cronky
It's difficult to see a clear road-map out of this for Pep. Attempting to fill the gap left by Rodri in January will be very difficult, and smacks of panic. They are more vulnerable to counter-attacks than they were before, but switching to a less aggressive game is a tough call to make. It feels like a very public vote of no confidence. His players are used to dominating the opposition, and there were signs yesterday that many of them were struggling to cope with being second best. On top of that, and despite the extension to his contract, Pep seems to be in the final phase of his time at City. It may not be the glorious last lap that he would have hoped for. If they get hammered on the FFP / PSR front, the dent to his morale could be huge.
