Just noticed Luxembourg finished third with 17 points and only lost 3 games out of 10... Mad as they used to be the whipping boys of Europe back in the day

I think @ponsaelius made a really good point a little while back that Luxembourg aren't as bad as some minnows because they're surrounded by countries with huge football traditions, have a decent economy and although their population is small it's certainly not as small as other minnows

For example Luxembourg has a population of about 600k whereas Liechtenstein has only 39k

So maybe Luxembourg should be one of the best of the minnows

Twice the population of Iceland and they have qualified for a Euros and a WC

Yes Luxembourg are in the Iceland/Latvia category where with a bit of luck and a good generation have enough population to possibly qualify for a tournament - unlike other countries traditionally classed as minnows. They've arguably been underperforming for a long time.

They've massively improved last two cycles (9 points last time, 17 this time). A lot of their players in recent years have been moving across into French and German academies at a young age which seems to have helped.

Was good mates at Uni with a lad from Luxembourg and given what he said about living there I suspect they’re finally benefiting from EU freedom of movement as well. Yuge Portuguese community over there.

There was a pretty bad fight between fans, after that, the police came in kicking argentinian ass and all hell broke loose in the stands, Argentina's whole delegation retreated to their lockerroom.

Tuned in for this - is it a late start or has something happened?

There’s seemingly nee segregation for the away fans and it all kicked off during the anthems. Police throwing batons as much anyone to inflame it further so Messi took them off field.

Argentina coming back on the field now.
