I feckin HATE the way it's sang now.[emoji38] Me and my brother tried to get the right version going all the time. (got a "canny duet in the east stand once ").

Also hate that the "you" has now been dropped from "We love YOU Newcastle, we do, etc", it's just not right man.

Old school same as me.  I totally understand.  We are starting a therapy group for like minded old farts.... Rod stands up, "I once sang shoes off if you love the Toon.  I actually (starts sobbing) took my shoe off"..... lots of murmurs in the audience.

I've always sung it that way personally, with the 'you'. Been educated properly I suppose.

Can anyone attempt to pinpoint when it was that Blaydon Races got the makina treatment?

Nearest season will do, doesn’t have to be as precise as the exact month

I reckon anyone caught singing the wrong words to Blaydon Races should be given an automatic one match stadium ban (actually, three matches if they’re from Tyneside).  Second offence lifetime ban, nee comebacks.

They’d learn quickly :)

I have actually "googled" makina treatment and I'm still non the wiser.  Did I mention that I was an old fart?

Also, singing it at 120bpm like you’re in New Monkey or Colosseum should result your parents being imprisoned.  You are their failure.

120bpm would be a snails pace compared to the 190bpm we get these days

Rod, after you slagged off my beloved Michelle Collins you’re lucky I’m still speaking to you. Although now I’m thinking that you probably didn’t appreciate her beauty because of shit old codger eyesight

Here’s what makina is

Wow, how did I not know that?  I apologise and I am impressed with your knowledge.

Wew, keenly anticipating Rod's response once he's finished his glass of red.[emoji38]

He told me Michelle Collins was nowt special and that I had a low bar when it came to being in love with her

Don’t think he could say anything that would actually offend me more than that

I didn't really slag Michelle Collins off, I was just unimpressed with your taste.

I'm not helping myself here am I?

YES.

And the pronunciation.  It’s supposed to be ‘Newcuhsel’.

I was annoyed, but Michelle was furious when I told her

She’s the one who needs the formal apology

I cut this together a few years back. I’ve been banging on about it for a good few years it seems…

I’d say you can start to hear it speeding up a bit by the early 90s but still wayyyyy better than the early 00s when I started going.

Because they sing:

”Al’ the lads and lasses there al’ with smilin’ faces, gannin’ alang the Scotswood Road to see the Blaydon Races”

The majority sing the chorus to the end of the first verse because they don’t know the correct words. As such, people speed through it quicker and quicker to get to the end…because they don’t know the words.

@Heron - I really think Wor Flags should whack a tweet/Facebook post out with this on. And do it every week until people work it out…and sing it slower.

I tend to agree but we have to be tactful how it's done with owt like this otherwise the reaction is always "egos" "above their station" "think they're the voice of all fans" etc.

I mean any normal person would agree like but yi just kna plenty folk who'd say the above exist.

I'll never get the speed of the songs, it's the opposite of what would be effective. When has anything ever sounded louder or more stirring by being rushed through at 100mph? It's mental.

Exactly.  I'm a massive rugby fan (England of course).  I listen to the Scottish anthem "Flower of Scotland" and I get a tingle down my spine, yet I have no Scottish blood in my body.  When I hear the Wales anthem sung by the fans I'm in tears.  The passion from the song and the fans comes across fantastically.  If we could do that with Blaydon Races then I'm sure that I would be a gibbering mess.

it’s the toot isn’t it. The twitchers cannot still that then lends itself to the rushed singing
