I didn't think it was controversial to say he's never been outstanding on the ball. Obviously no where near as bad as his current form suggests like.

People were saying he was the best midfielder in the league. Better than Bruno.  I don’t think they were judging him correctly then. And the over reaction is now the otherway.

Tonali is decent on the ball, but nothing special really. As mentioned by others, his best attributes are his athleticism and work rate.

He was standout on the ball until recently - all he's asked to do now is chase and be physical. Hold on, that's all, all our players do.

As long as we get £80m we should let him go in the summer.

One of a number who are not pulling their weight this season.

£70m+ for someone that can’t pass would be insane business from the club.

3 months ago people were talking about him being one of our greatest ever midfielders.

Hes going through a tough patch, aye, but it happens to pretty much everyone.

Bloke is class and it’ll be a real shame if we lose him.

I just don't think his distribution is anything special. It's one attribute, he's still class and one of our best players.

It’s just opinion mean-reversion. We were desperate for him to be good - needed him to be good - so people were readily willing to over-inflate their view of him at signs of promise. He was not, and never will be, anywhere near as good as Bruno.

If you mean he's very far from being Pirlo or Xavi I agree with you.

For the record....Bruno is also very far from those two.

He's better than decent on the ball, he gets it out of his feet quickly and really zips his passes to keep the game moving, that's a plus for a guy who's a defensive midfielder. But... he does have a couple of loose passes a game and at least one of them is where he passes straight to an opponent like he doesn't even see them  Doesn't do him justice either just to say his athleticism and work rate are his best attributes, they're off the charts, he's like a force of nature when at his best. The issue is that the last few months, for whatever reason he's just not looked his usual monster physically and that makes his iffy passes stand out all the more. I thought this would be his last season here but I thought it would be Real Madrid coming in with a monster offer to have him do the running of 2 guys in midfield to free up the galacticos who only want to run one way, and I would've accepted it. Moving to Arsenal because he's unsettled here and ripping it up would hurt.

Desperate to see him and Bruno in a deeper role with a creative player pushed further forward but looks like it won't happen. In hindsight Grealish would've been a decent punt signing but for the wages

I do get annoyed at the thought of underperforming players being unsettled because the team isn’t performing, as if they have nowt to do with it.  It’s like being angry at being sat in gridlocked traffic and thinking you’re not part of the problem.

Maybe it's just my impression but it seems to me that his center of gravity on the pitch is about ten meters further back than last season... it's also true that up until November his performances were more than good, only in the last two months have  become worse.

None of this makes any sense. Did the agent think Arsenal would bid £70M+ on the last day of the window?

Ornstein is usually top tier for Arsenal as well so I believe him

Agent probably denying it after Arsenal said no

I'm stuck somewhere between: "there's no loyalty in football, yes we stuck by him but it's a short career and we're not exactly pulling up trees this season", and "stupid disloyal carbonara loving cunt".

He owes us more than one season and this season doesn't count as he's mostly been shit

So do we believe his agent? Anyways I think we all knew the writing was on the wall regarding this one.

There’s little reason to believe agents so he’s probably full of shit.

But I also don’t believe unknown sources at rival clubs or Ornstein (or any other journalists) interest in or ability to filter out  the bullshit, so if we told me this was phase one of Arsenal following Liverpool’s how to unsettle a player playbook I could be convinced to believe that too.

A cartel member fancies a player from one of the stronger farm territories so its time to release the unsettling tactics to keep that price down for the enabled big spending club against the already held back enough club. Love PSR.
