Very confused by those knocking Anderson he was great last season and the stats bear that out. He's also one of our own who literally took one for the team, he didn't want to leave.

I actually entirely get it. Trying to downplay how good he is because of how annoying it is that we lost him.

In fairness people had him as a high flying 10 or wide player, not a tenacious midfielder.

Anyone who doesnt rate him at this point is going to look daft when he has more silverware than anyone from this part of the world in years.

That was the point really. It might be that he just wasn't suited to a high intensity game style where he got caught with less time on the ball.

Yes, this could be a valid explanation but I'd add that... Wissa was coming off an excellent season at Brentford and failed this year. Wolte had a great year at Stuttgart and was in Bayern's sights as one of the most promising young Germans but ended up, sadly, on the bench for much of the season. I suspect Elanga was also much better at Forest than he has been with you... in short, or you're very unlucky or the fact that Howe was confirmed as coach could be the worst "new" signing of next season.

First half of the season, yes, albeit in a completely different setup tactically. Towards the end of his time with Forest he looked poor.

Completely. If you ignore the context that Anderson was given time at Forest to become the player he is today, by being the main man in midfield in a different system to the one Newcastle play.

But yeah, ignoring that, Howe ruined Anderson.

Fucking mental gymnastics on NO every day these days.

Isn't that what I said? He didn't fit into our system of play but looked a lot better at Forest where he had time on the ball?

Whichever way you want to slice it, he was the wrong player for us but immediately the right player for Forest,  and now Man City are looking at him, and his value has trebled.

Exactly. I'm not saying Howe's way is wrong either, but it is very dependent on certain type of players, a striker with pace and outstanding finishing being one of them. But historically, even at our peak, when that striker was out, we looked kind of lost.

He wasn't the wrong player. He was a young player who hadn't broken into our team. He would have flourished here too, it might have taken a little longer though.

It has nothing to do with Howe or systems and entirely to do with timing (and bad PSR planning).

Howe was gutted when we lost Anderson because he knew how good he was going to be.

I think that's harsh but I understand the sentiment, I think some people have an issue with the distinction between the price and output and default too " he only scored 4 goals so he can't be worth 100m'.

I mean you said Howe made him worse  It's bullshit. The closest thing you could say to it is "Howe didn't make him as good as he is today"

It's just semantics at the end of the day. If you play Anderson today where he ends up running into traffic on the left instead of deeper in central midfield in a system where he has more time on the ball, he'll look worse.

Well anyone who signs for Man City will have loads of trophies.

Personally I'm not knocking him, I just was never that attached to him because of how little he appeared for us. I hope he does well at Man City but I honestly never thought he would reach that level.

Don't tell me what I felt 😂😂

As I said before I was all-in on him and followed him closely at Bristol Rovers and particularly the pre season before he got injured in Miley's breakout season. It's easy to say with hindsight but I thought there was a proper player there and I was aghast we sold him at the time.

You're unusual then, at least on here. Almost nobody gave the slightest fuck. Most were more bothered about losing Minteh.

Yep I agree I was definitely in a small minority, and to further clarify, I agree he would not have become the player he has by staying here - similar to Toney.
