Interesting shout about tone-deafery from @Mountain, aka the lad who told everyone his mum had died in a car crash, copped a load of sympathy as you might expect, only to then say he was joking before doubling down on the twattery.

I have no idea what you’re on about.

I just think a pic like this would be better.

If that makes me the worst person in the world, then so be it.

Have a great weekend chaps.

I respect that.

Now that I've got it off my chest, I don't mind any more.

Have a good weekend.

Tbf I once made a fist of joining N-O's traitors thread whilst not having a fucking Scooby how to play. Similarly doubled down on my shitposting but, given the outrage, that was way worse than joking that me Mam had bought the farm in a car crash

The wacky world of Newcastle Online 😉

Me neither.

It reminds me of the time my mate's 97 year old gran said, "I don't understand this world anymore…the gas board is supplying me electricity, the electricity board is supplying me gas…

I feel old.

It wasn't genuine outrage in the traitors thread, it was all part of the silly game [emoji38]

The post ban (was that the one?) was part of the punishment everyone got to add some jeopardy to the game, but it didn't mean that anyone had done anything actually wrong, it was supposed to be a laugh. And also fair play for giving it a shot.

But I ain't no grass.

Well, this is supposed to be about Tonali rather than Anderson, who with hindsight we wouldn't have sold and apparently Howe didn't want him to go.

But at the time, I'll admit I was probably with what I remember to be the rough majority of the forum.

I. e. a shame he went, as with Minteh, but it was better than selling Gordon, is what I thought. Hindsight being a wonderful thing, but I seem to remember Liverpool also messing about about a fee for Gordon and whether or not to bid. Individuals also differed on that view, so it's not like there's a hive mind.

I think Tonali is a class player and ideally wouldn't sell unless he wanted to go. If he did want to, I could live with it, and especially if he gave it one more year first.

What do you think about keeping him, or not, assuming it's for a decent fee if he went?

Sorry mate, wasn’t referring to your comment, but to the bizarre comments re a Gary Speed avatar

In terms of Anderson - I was non-plussed when he went; he’d made a half century of appearances and pulled up zero trees, and didn’t look like he’d fit into Howe’s system.  My view at the time was that we’d be better off selling a ‘purple’ and that PCP and Eales had done a shockingly bad job re PSR breaches, waiting until the end of June to do a panic-sale.  I’m not particularly fussed re Tonali being sold either - he’s been at the club for three years, cost a lot of money and has a big reputation, and he’s had more time being average (or banned) than living up to his rep.

The question is not for me but I'll try to answer you anyway.

If Howe uses him like he did last season then it's worth selling him, and I say this with a heavy heart because, in my opinion, he remains an essential element if you want to be a competitive team.

Last season your formation wasn't a 4-3-3 but more like a 4-1-2-3 (especially when not in possession), with Tonali often positioned a meter in front of yours CB's... moreover, even when in possession, he remained the most withdrawn midfielder, almost acting as a playmaker, a role that doesn't suit him.

The double pivot is a better option but I'm not 100% convinced that it could work with Bruno as his partner (a double pivot requires dynamic skills from both, Bruno has many qualities but not that of being dynamic... certainly not for 90 minutes).

I think the best solution is a 3-man midfield with Tonali-Bruno and a third to be purchased with characteristics different from those of Joelinton, Miley could work but he's a player I still know little about... my dream would be to do an experiment with Hall as the third moved to the left, he has all the qualities to do well in that role.

Thanks, I appreciate the response and by the way please don't worry about answering a footballing question whether directed to you or not [emoji38]. It was partly a question intended to get the thread back on track, so thanks for answering thoughtfully.

Absolutely, Tonali didn't score any goals in the Premier league this season.

He can score, he just needs to be given the confidence and agency to do so.

It's clear that his current position and the tactical approach isn't doing him any favours.
