Hes a handfull, but is that enough? And from two/three games at the Euros? Had a good season in Turkish league, and poor numbers before that.

If it is true Mitchell is on his way to Turkey, then I’m all for him. Either way, great that things are starting to hot up in the RW and CB departments.

Sure, I would back him to do well. I just think we have enough grafters and runners. Time for some goals and assists on that side.

Yep we need that for sure. But I’d be delighted to get him. From (little…) I’ve seen he’d definitely occupy defences/keep them wondering more than Miggy. Which, regardless of direct goal contributions, frees up space elsewhere. Off to do some Wise scouting.

Yeah it’s not quite the guile / flair of an Olise but can imagine the industry and robustness and tenacity would be a nightmare to play against and would free up space for Bruno Gordon Isak Trippier etc.

wonder if we get Yilmaz would we still get Roque or would that be overkill?

Not convinced Roque was ever on the cards. Certainly not if we get Osula. I guess it's possible if Wilson was shipped off but not convinced it's anything but a spurious link from a Spanish paper.

It got off to a lively start with Besiktas scoring in the first minute (Immobile).

We're all going to look pretty stupid next week when Mitchell shows up for some media interviews with beaming white teeth and a full head of hair.

Oh shit, I thought Klopp announced retirement from football last week

He’s on start of 2nd half.

Lively start. Wrestled to ground within mins defending then does brilliantly to create a great chance at other end his teammate fluffs.

Besiktas just made it 2-0 so we’ll see how good he is now. Seems to be playing on the left mind… 😆

Appreciate the updates

It does seem they use him all over the shop, but his main position appears to be on the right.

Seems he has even filled in at right back and left back!

The Turkish Steve Watson.

I’d play him on the right which is where he mainly played in the Euros. Was an absolutely massive handful for everyone who was up against him. He’d bully people in the premier league, especially alongside Jow

This is the original Turkish article that detailed Mitchell flying in yesterday and being hosted by Tuncay Maldan, who is his agent.

Tuncay Maldan's agency and players

This seems key but (apols for ropey translation):

Barış Alper Yılmaz, one of the architects of Galatasaray's last two championships, is leaving the yellow-red team. English teams compete with each other for the 24-year-old striker. There was a surprise development, especially while the Liverpool allegations were circulating. Newcastle's sports director Paul Mitchell came to Istanbul yesterday... today he will watch the Galatasaray-Besiktaş Super Cup final. It seems likely that he will make an offer for Barış Alper Yılmaz.

Galatasaray's national star Barış Alper Yılmaz is a traveller to England... The current Newcastle United sports director Paul Mitchell, one of the teams that wanted him in April, came to Istanbul... it was claimed that the name that left AS Monaco at that time would first be the sports director of Fenerbahçe and then Beşiktaş. In fact, after the words of President Hasan Arat, it was taken very seriously. However, Mitchell became the sports director of Newcastle United from the Premier League teams in early July. The explosion experienced by Barış Alper Yılmaz in Euro 2024. Going to England for vacation. Here, allegations that he was in talks with teams such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa overlapped.

mentioned this in another thread but he reminds me a lot of Bellamy, he's a pest who is always nipping at your heels with great pace. if he is even 75% close to the impact Bellamy had, he would be brilliant. The one player from the Euros who I wanted

There was even more further down in the article.

And the Tuncay Maldan guy is his agent:

IN ISTANBUL FOR BARIŞ ALPER

Newcastle's sporting director arrived in Istanbul yesterday... he is expected to watch the Super Cup final between Galatasaray and Beşiktaş today. Afterwards, he may make an offer to Galatasaray management for Barış Alper.

TUNCAY MALDAN'S GUEST

All that is known is that Mitchell was hosted by Tuncay Maldan in Istanbul... and even that a pre-booking was made at the hotel he was staying at as "Maldan's guest". After the Super Cup final, many things seem to fall into place
