No, there is no other club that has bought as many British based players than us.

Even when we go shopping in the championship where other clubs are picking up promising youngsters we come away with John Ruddy.:2funny:

Not sure how you've worked that one out mind.

Even including technically relegated teams as PL teams (you originally said PL players rather than British based) it's 12 out of 21, which is 57%.

Burn 12m = Success

Targett 15m? = Failure

Wood 25m = Failure (getting 17m back made it pretty decent)

Pope 12m = Success

Gordon 45m = Success

Hall 35m = Success

Tino 35m = Success

Osula 10m = TBC

Not a bad hit rate though, especially when you consider that if we sold our England trio, we'd likely recoup conservatively 150m, probably more.

While on the other hand we've got a 55m Italian who's got the biggest question mark over his future on the "foreign signings" list.

I'm not disputing the need to cast our net wider though, I'm just trying to play devils advocate.

were Barnes, Vlad and Kelly missed off for any reason?

it’s also only half the story putting hit or miss against them, the real question is whether there is the same output for less cash if you went abroad.

you’re really looking at the Barnes and Gordon transfers for that, the other fees are pretty low and what you’d likely pay abroad anyway

Still just 28 years old. Surprised by that.

Between Tomori and Christensen we have two options that can come in straight away and improve our back line and go on to partner Botman over the next 5 years.

Paying around £25 million for either would be great business.

The justified and prevailing complaint is that the sensitivity is so much greater in our case than others because of the bullshit, anti-competitive rules. In a couple of windows, Chelsea can blow £250m and God knows what wages on a few players who've already demonstrated their quality in this league, and it's no bother at all, whether or not those transfers work out. We do the same and suddenly it's "stop whinging, you made your choices"? Horseshit.

PL players are appealing because their chances of success are more guaranteed; buying from abroad - although it can be cheaper up front, is riskier. Why should only a small number of teams have unfettered and consequence-free access to the lower-risk market?

Yorkie, as I'm sure you know I'm in no way advocating for these stupid rules. I've been one of the loudest and most consistent critiques of them.

I don't think this detracts from my point however, in order to work around these currant rules we have to be ruthless at all levels and trade aggressively, we need too notch scouting and can't afford to be "lazy' with our targets.

When it comes to Elanga in particular it's especially frustrating as forest paid 15m for him 18 months ago we simply can't afford to be bag holders here. If we wanted him we should have bought him then.

A quick note on PSR, luckily for me @The College Dropouthas taken up my drum and is not posting Relentlessly about it so I don't have to

But what is clear is our revenue isn't high enough not growing quick enough, I'm well aware of the 50% YOY growth we hear from Silverstone but sadly our revenue in isolation isn't very relevant what matters is the gap to those above us and if this isn't closing we are obviously falling further and further behind.

On a more general note if the club has a plan to catch up I'm either not paying enough attention or a credible one doesn't exist.

Christensen will be on mega bucks. And is injury prone iirc.

@r0cafella the club have a grand plan they just haven’t told us yet or actioned it but it 100% exists. Just waiting for other clubs to finish fighting our stealth war. The pawns.

I'm not THAT cynical, I do believe they want to win things I just think they are struggling to navigate PSR and instead of being bold and confident we have decided to complain about PSR at every opportunity instead.

If everyone believes it's not possible to break the class ceiling we are pretty screwed mind.

With some of the stuff I've been reading I think it will be very disappointing if we can't make something happen in January to give the team a jolt.

I already mentioned Tomori being ready to come back to England, and AC Milan apparently being ready to accommodate that as the new manager has him out of the first team currently. They are looking for £25 million.

Also at AC Milan, they are making Chukwueze available for £20 million, and he could be available on an initial loan too. Pulisic has made the right wing his and is limiting his opportunities, and they think he's too valuable to be kept on the bench.

Chukwueze is very much a Premier League player. If we have shown interest in the likes of Mbeumo and Madueke, he's very much in that mould and type of player. Worst case scenario getting a loan deal done at least, if nothing else is possible, should be looked at.

Looks like there will be deals available. I really hope we can do something.

I'm a bit lost that a player of Tomori's quality would be available for 20m KaKa, surely not?

£25 million is what is being reported consistently. Just going off that really.

Tomori it is then!

Not injury prone. And his Milan wages are around 80k a week.

27 in few days, we probably need a younger profile to be honest. Unfortunately we need to sign players with an eye on resale value we need to be consistently evolving the squad if we want to navigate PSR.

Not every single player is bought to eventually be sold at profit.

If we still want to be competitive there has to be a balance.

If we can get a high calibre player for the first team for a great fee and a wage that is within what we pay we have to take advantage of that when we can.

5 year deal to get him in his prime years as a defender. That's a yes for me!

I think it's crucial we sign players who can be resold personally. We already have a squad full of players with no resale value.

Let's not speedrun the Man united time line.

Id compromise with our keeper and centre backs where experience is key.

younger players who can develop and potentially sold in all other areas.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not advocating signing the equivalent of Orsula for centre half, I'm more referring to a profile which is good now with room to grow and of course increase in value.

We should be doing that with younger players to fill up the squad all the way through to the youth teams. This work has already started.

This does not mean that you then never sign any players that are experienced if it makes sense, and they are not completely past it.

We went for Tosin this summer who was 27 because there was value there with no fee and wages that fit our structure.

Schar cannot be relied upon next season as a starter. Tomori is a 27 year old centre back that won a league title in Italy, featured in a champions league final, is English with Prem experience and adds speed to our slow back line. They are saying the fee is £25 million, and his wages fit our structure.

If we are not considering that type of deal when there is a gap there in our first eleven for him, then we are not approaching things correctly at all.

Tosin is free, of course we did the right thing trying to sign him, that's not my point.

My point is I wouldn't be trying to sign players for fees who will have no resale value. We've done this before and it's great in the short term but long term it causes issues. .

I see the positives of him as a player I like Tomori but as I've said we need a philosophy and a blueprint and we need to stick to it. We can't keep buying safety blankets.

I don't think I can explain it any better than I have.

We are not Brighton. And will not just start signing young prospects only.

We are aiming to still be a competitive team that regularly qualifies for Europe.

There has to be a balance within reason, otherwise we will not be able to compete for European places.

And our current best players will have no incentive to stay if some quality players that can make a difference aren't coming in.

It doesn't make any sense.

Ok I’m going to say it because no one else has.

RASHFORD.

(Slowly skulks back into a corner waiting to be flogged).

With a contract til 2028 on 300k a week, Rashford is going absolutely nowhere, least of all here.

Sorry. I was half asleep writing that list. I knew I'd missed some.

Vlad = Less said the better

Kelly = Failure so far, I suspect he will come good to a degree. He was also a free transfer.

Barnes = Success. Failure in strategy perhaps.

Aye. Looks great in that video and has excellent stats too.

19 years old and available on a free next summer. There will a long queue for him.

Looks like we were tenuously linked to Dibling again yesterday. He looks a real talent but he was apparently homesick for Southampton while at Chelsea so I'm not sure we're a goer [emoji38]

Dibling and Evan Ferguson on a loan with option to buy would be absolutely class, but not sure it's very likely!
