AyeDubbleYoo
I don't think Pedro would negate the need for a CM except if we're permanently changing system. If we're playing 4-3-3 with any regularity we need another midfielder still.

Bruno Tonali Joelinton Willock Miley Pedro when needed and to maintain his game time… Think that will be enough as Miley got little game time nor Willock. Obviously Ederson would be nice
AyeDubbleYoo
Hmm, kind of, I was assuming an upgrade on Willock because IMO he offers very, very little now. We still wouldn't have a replacement for the main 3 that is any quality, except Miley who is still very young. I think Pedro would play instead of a midfielder rather than as a midfielder. So in a game where we wanted a midfield 3 he wouldn't play there. Edited 5 hours ago by AyeDubbleYoo

Geordie Ahmed
I'm actually really excited by this transfer and would be gutted if it doesn't happen Would I want this signing to happen at the expense of a RW or CB? No but just because we sign a GK first doesn't mean that will be the case. I can make those judgements when the window closes Trafford means that is the GK sorted for the next decade easily and he has the profile that will help us improve. I don't want a keeper to be good with his feet so he can play daft little suicidal passes like some of the lesser sides foolishly do but I want us to have a keeper that can present himself as a passing option when any of our defenders have the ball. Currently we avoid passing to Pope as much as possible and on the occasions we do pass to him he mostly shanks it out I don't think Traffords all round game is as good as Pope's but he's still young and will get better at that as he gets older

There may still be occasional mistake in his game, but for a 22yr old keeper with the games he has under his belt, you will be hard pressed to get better across Europe IMO. A position locked down for a long time goes a long way. Would even say £30m isn't that big in the goalkeeper stakes when you consider Chelsea have spent god knows what on many GKs, Man Utd £50m on Onana, Arsenal near £30m on Ramsdale, Mamardashvili for £30m. All who over recent seasons have shown countless mistakes in their game. Excellent. I think the bit bolded is definitely a strategy of ours.

If so, it might be achievable without significant sales, maybe? Quick maffs suggests we’re looking at a 120m ish transfer kitty, maybe up to 150m/160m if we’re wanting to be bold. How accurate is that in your (and other psr wizards on here) opinion?

I like Miley and think he'll be a great player one day, but he's not ready for a lot of football just yet Edited 1 hour ago by Dr.Spaceman

How accurate is that in your (and other psr wizards on here) opinion? My back of a fag packet numbers reckons that we should be able to push out to nine figures without sales. We lost a total of £42m in the previous two seasons to this one (-£70m in 2023, +£28m in 2024). Given that our income hasn’t moved this season (and will actually have decreased due to the lack of player sales compared to the PSR-tastic sales of Anderson and Minteh), I’d bet that we end up showing a loss of around £40m in PSR terms this season - which keeps the books balanced (and also accounts for the lack of incomings this month - though there’s likely a bit of wriggle-room). The TL;DR is that means that this season we might actually be able to do the ‘full loss’ of almost £105m in PSR terms and not break PSR - though of course this would knack us further down the line (and the rules change next season to be far tighter). Allowing for the increase in revenues with CL, which should absorb the operating losses this season, the club should be able to spend £100m on transfers without unduly worrying, and likely go a bit higher. How much higher depends on their risk appetite; and if we do go a lot higher, if we don’t start getting ruthless in selling players then we’ll end up seeing the transfer slowdowns again next season. edit: re performance-related fees, these are only counted once triggered, so if we win a trophy and that triggers a £1m additional payment to the selling club, then that is fully included in that year’s PSR calcs Edited 1 hour ago by TheBrownBottle

I'm still of the opinion that Hall and Tino signings were luxury gambles that we shouldnt have made and they massively hinderered our squad progression over the last 4 windows. Had we made back to back CL qualifications they would have been fine but the gamble back fired and we had to stand still as a result. However, now we are coming out the other side of the PSR hole they look fantastic aquisitions at great prices. Hate PSR... I think the big issue was Tonali's ban. This delayed the transition from the hell-for-leather super gegenpress we were doing to something more controlled and less injury inducing by a year. The resulting injuries and bad luck, like that effing all-time Group of Death CL draw, cost us the regression we saw last season. Full back updates were especially tricky for us, because Trippier was our most creative player. Liverpool might see something similar with Trent gone.
