Thank fuck he did fuck off and we kept Joelinton then eh. Wouldn't have been winning that cup final and giving me one of the best days of me life without him for starters

Very true can’t disagree with that, though long term think his concerns about his availability due to injuries might be well founded.

Based on what? Genuine question.

It was sarcasm.

I have no idea of Andy Howe's credentials and am cynical that the best person for the job just so happens to be the bosses' nephew.

That said, Eddie clearly trusts him and their transfer record is decent.

Do you think Ashworth would have left if he was happy in his role ? there were plenty of reports that he thought the job wasn’t as advertised and he didn’t have the autonomy to make the decisions he wanted, Joelintons contract being one well reported example.

Personally i couldn't care less why he left, as long as it wasn't because the club was on fire like it was during Ashley ownership.

And, if you would be so kind to me point in direction to where it's been said it was because of Eddie, that is not something i recall at all. Or ever remember being said, written or even mentioned until i read your post.  Frankly i think it's nonsense, but I’m quite happy to proven wrong.

Plus, Howe and Nickson taking over a job they've both done before here.

They signed Bruno, Botman, Trippier etc...

Didn't we hire a "transfer expert" for the first window? I can't remember the details.

Edit: As revealed by The Athletic, Newcastle United’s new owners have appointed Nick Hammond as a temporary consultant ahead of the January transfer window.

We did but obviously as fans we don't know the extent of the engagement.

It did start being briefed as mitigation by his side after his attempt at going to Man U became a shit show, but not beforehand. Then, after his stint at Man U became a shit show, his side started briefing that he really liked working with Eddie Howe and he'd suggested him as a replacement for Ten Hag.

Ashworth spreading self-serving bollocks seems to be the consistent theme.

I’m certainly not saying it was all down to Howe the people running the club should have given a clear job specification of the DOF role, I think that is the problem and one they need to address with whoever they appoint next.

Maybe, he probably got paid more at Man Utd and thinks it’s a higher prestige job. Also got another lovely period of paid gardening leave.

Have to admire Mitchell's commitment to being absolutely useless until the very last day.

His ideas obviously clashed with Howe's, that was not going to work and we've basically wasted a season because of it.

Hopefully this will bring some clarity and Howe's team can get some transfer business done quickly now.

Fair enough mate.  I hate saying this as it makes me want to puke, but personally I think Ashworth left because he was wanted by one of the so called biggest clubs in the world. And as much of a mess Man Utd are, the pull is still there for some.

Ashworth leaving may have had a bit more to it.  You are right mind, the DOF or whatever they want to call it, does need defining and sorting out once and for all.

We might not like it but clubs like Man U and Liverpool have more pull than us because they are considered one of the biggest clubs in the world. Doesn't help that they can offer double the wages we can to players on top of that.

Staveley and Ashworth at least got business done and had influence over PIF. Too much I guess.

Apart from two Champions League campaigns, one Carabo Cup and never being in a relegation battle for three years... What did that overspending ever get us!!

I do get your point to a degree but history will show success over us having to sell Anderson etc
