I wasn’t referring to him

And again, it is dog whistle stuff - he doesn’t need to post anything on social media.

Okay, well I just think launching in and assuming the worst of anyone who says they're a Christian is very problematic

It's just so incredibly divisive and there is just so much of this sort of thing everywhere you turn nowadays.

It is sucking the life and joy out of absolutely everything.

The reality is if you bumped into the man at a gathering somewhere without all these preconceived notions, you'd likely get along just fine despite these different underlying beliefs.

No issue with anyone being a Christian.  None whatsoever.  But it isn’t a defence for having shitty views, that’s all.

“Marc Guehi's father "Did he offend anyone? He did the right thing by wearing the rainbow armband but people are having a go at him for what he wrote. He was just trying to balance the message. He was saying 'You gave me the armband, as a Christian I don't believe in your cause, but I'll put it on'."

I'm sure we have homophobes on our team right now. It's just the nature of football. Players are coming from all different walks of life and cultures, plus you there almost in a unique position of not having a traditional upbringing and not being around around gay or trans people and growing up in a culture of masculinity. I would say he's a dickhead but it's clear in the context of football it's a common opinion.

Anyway, I'm sure Howe would make him great like he does pretty much everyone, but I'd still rather us not sign him because I don't think I've ever seen him play well at the club level.

‘Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household’

I wasn’t present when whoever said that, said that but…..there’s lots of tracts from Sufi or mystical Islamic authors with a very similar theme. They’re referring though to the idea of one’s attachment to God being paramount and that other ‘worldly’ attachments, of which family is extremely strong, are a distraction if one wants to choose the life of an spiritual devotee.
My initial reaction would be that the passage you’re quoting may well be of a similar ethos rather than an actual call to arms against your kith and kin.

Also, absolutely EVERYONE has their prejudices and whoever’s may be judged as more disrespectful or harmful than others atm has to do with the flux of culture and current ideology.
And which side of whatever fence you may be sitting on.

Always find it odd when it's said he should've just not worn the rainbow armband. There is zero doubt in my mind he'd have generated at least as much ill feeling. He had no 'winning' move except to wear the branding and keep his mouth shut.

I don't think it's really about ranking prejudices. Unless you mean people disliking homophobia is a prejudice.

Anyway, we've debated this a hell of a lot

Yeah, didn’t know if @LFEE was joking (in a slightly confusing way- you don’t have to be gay to dislike homophobia) but it’s a definite no from me

Nah wasn’t joking. And you are absolutely correct in what you say. I probably should’ve made it clearer the issue. I’m not gay and I don’t like it to prove your point.

Iffy personal politics aside, I can see why Howe wanted him - and might still want him; tbf, even if I couldn't, I'd back his judgement based on his track record.  The price last summer (and probably this summer) seemed a bit crackers, especially given the transfer market slowdown caused by PSR / FFP (on a side note - imagine how little movement there would be if PIF stopped overpaying for players from other PL clubs to take to the KSA league?).
