We have a Non-League thread, and a "Other 19" thread, only right that we have an EFL one. 

 

West Brom who have started the season so well, but that Sheffield Wednesday game proves how competitive the Championship is. Meanwhile Birmingham in League One have started to look as imperious as people where predicting in Pre-Season. 

 

Also, ol' Stephen Clemence's Barrow is losing to Gillingham after a good start to the season.

Think the top of the Championship will be quite tight this season. Three teams who went down aren’t great and no real standout other teams aside from maybe Leeds who have flattered to deceive thus far. Could be a lowish points total especially compared to last years shenanigans.

Yeah. I think Burnley will come up because they are in that weird space where they are not good enough for the Premier League, but too good for the Championship.

 

I expected Leeds to run away with it, but it looks like they have lost too many players in the summer to do that.

 

Luton seem to have imploded, and so do Coventry compared to last year.

 

It’s opened it up for 1 or 2 teams to have a decent season and come up, despite being nowhere near good enough to come up, Sunderland, and Sheffield United being prime examples so far.

It’s a sad world where WBA are looking to be one of the better options for promotion.

Looks a shit league this year with next year’s reward to be relegation cannon fodder up for grabs.

Just noticed that Scott Lindsey dropped from League One with Crawley to MK Dons in League Two, given how Crawley have overperformed all metrics since the start of last season, which helped underpin their promoted, its going to be really interesting to see how they go. 

 

Feels like it could be a bit of a perfect storm for a manager going their and performances going to what the numbers say, coupled with the fact they've just got promoted, and they start propping up the bottom of the league.

Apparently they're after Rob Elliot from Gateshead, which I really hope isn't true as Heed are doing really well. Feel like a second successive loss of a manager early in the season when starting well might not be as easy to navigate again.

Realistically he can't turn it down, but it feels like a job for a manager to just fail at no matter how good they are.

I mentioned it in the Managerial Sack Race thread, but Mark Robbins getting sacked may be the most mental decision any EFL club will make this season.

The Championship form table looks quite good from a Derby County fan perspective - nicked Blackburn's manager and immediately shoot up to 2nd in the form table whilst Blackburn are rock bottom. Now it looks like Derby are dead certs for staying up given they've got some very winnable fixtures coming up. They were well and truly fucked a few months ago.

 

Ones to watch next season.

Wrexham is a forgotten working class town lacking in investment. It’s had nothing to shout about for decades. For the town I wish them well, however I don’t think their model is unsustainable in the Championship. I think they will have to change tactic in terms of recruitment and outside investors once again.

Makems want to hope they do go up this time. 

Notwithstanding, if they don't, they could well lose a couple more younguns but it'll be harder next year. 

There's little chance Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton do a Luton/Sunderland and tank. Brum and Wrexham won't be resting and the likes of Boro, West Brom, Watford etc etc will still be in the mix.

PL is full of identikit southern clubs from wealthy areas backed by rich owners. There's also been so many tinpot non league clubs that get backed by local businessmen and pushed up through the leagues on unsustainable models.

 

I think it's great that they've picked a downtrodden team with a history of horrific ownership and located in one of the most deprived areas of the country to invest in.

 

Wrexham as a club have always had potential - the catchment area covers all of north Wales and there's a clear identity there to lean in to.
