  1. 1. Joelinton

E is probably right, given his injury this past year, and his age, but it feels proper shit given it was only last season that he pocketed both Mbappe and Dembele. :lol:Ā

Jamaal Lascelles ends up with an E+ which is probably about right but feels a bit harsh to me but that's what doing your ACL at his age does I suppose.Ā

Ā

We get a break from defenders now for a bit and move onto Joelinton.

Ā

I was torn between B and C here, and I think not long ago would have given him a C but I think this season and last has shown how much of an engine he gives us in midfield. Would he be what every team needs? No. And perhaps he suits certain games more than others for us. But when he's needed and on his game he's very very good.Ā

C although it could be argued he's a B for our team/system with the way he covers the left side and allows room for Gordon (or previously Willock) to stretch teams with his defensive capabilities/covering. Difficult to replace his contribution, a unique player.

Feel like this is the perfect summary šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

I think Joelinton is overall a B. I think for us heā€™s probably more often a C nowadays because of our shift to being less ā€œintensity is our identityā€. I think for a lot of clubs heā€™d be a B if they found the right way to use him

Agree with the last three posters.Ā
Ā

Iā€™d say a B. As he plays a role in our team that covers 3 positions at once. Heā€™s very unique with his skillset and is a monster in probably at least 4-5 games a season for us.Ā
Ā

If he is just being graded as a wide player or a CM in general. Then heā€™d be a C.Ā

I missed Lascelles, who is an E.

Ā

Joelinton is a solid C for me. Ā No chance heā€™s one of the best in either the LW or CM positions in the league. Ā He isnā€™t our best LW, and isnā€™t one of our best midfielders, for starters. Ā Still love the lad and he is an asset.Ā

Question - I thought the idea was to rank the players generally in a wider context, not on their ranking within the squad? Ā It does look like folks are ranking Joelinton based on his worth to us, not on who he is generally

If your good your good but for Joelinton specifically you have to bump him up for his versatility which is an asset for us which may not be as needed in the context of league. Doing a job falling into the back line, middle, left and right boosts him "on his day" to a easy B.Ā  If I only thought him in the middle of a 3 and only that it might be a C+ instead.Ā

Depends on what kind of side you have.Ā

Ā

If you play highly technical football with a traditional defensive mid he's probably a C. Stick him I'm a side that thrives on transitions and physicality and he's a B.

B at worst suggests A when good. Ā Not sure heā€™s world class when good :)Ā

He's not world class but I think he's definitely better than a C.
