Don’t we just need a competent striker to help take Isak minutes?

Yep. Wissa is also someone I’d feel confident rolling with as our first-choice ST next season if Isak is sold.

We’re not in that bracket of clubs which can offer the salaries needed, ambitions or not.  We’re got the 7th highest turnover in the league, and the gap to 6th is a significant nine figure sum

That's fine, but we also signed Sandro Tonali, a Serie A champion and senior international, when we were in arguably a lesser financial position.

I don't think there's one path to paradise here. Losing out on Liam Delap and Joao Pedro can be considered a blow, that's fine, but I think where I struggle is the notion that in our attempt to do something (which I commend them for, staying stationary is going backwards) we're potentially ending up with Yoan Wissa or players in that bracket. One might argue that we saw with Chris Wood how goals aren't always transferable and can often be dictated by system and style. I see more parallels between Burnley and Brentford than I do between Brentford and ourselves.

I look at players like Bruno and Botman, guys who were on the periphery of the elite in mainland Europe, and wonder why our energy appears to be more focused on domestic players that come at a premium. It was that type of thinking that got us Alexander Isak. Perhaps the names just aren't there, and I'm trying to be mindful of my own ignorance here.

What I was getting at is, why does it reflect so badly on the window if we sign Wissa?

I’m sorry. I can’t do this boring conversation. I appreciate your willingness to look on the bright side.

Why would he be first choice next season?

In the event that Isak is sold, and given our struggles to get players across the line, we could do a lot worse than Wissa as first-choice for a season.

I’d still want and expect us to sign a long-term Isak replacement.

We might as well shut down the business as PL club if we dont use the money finding a new first choice ST if he leaves.

Of course but at least in the interim we'd have a quality PL striker.

And we still would need another ST.

No one is suggesting we should sell Isak btw. We want to keep him but if he doesn't sign a new contract by next summer he will be sold.

I know that. The point was Wissa being a first choice ST next season.

What he’s saying is it somewhat rises the floor of our worst case scenario in all cases where Isak is concerned along with resting him in cup games etc.

Do we ever learn not to talk players down ? Have we suddenly become so arrogant and entitled that Wissa isn't good enough for us ? Reminds me of Gordon this.

Wissa is mint, his age is a bit of a negative, and I suppose you could chuck in the AFCON.

19 goals from open play last season, rapid as feck, brilliant on the counter, can play across all three forward positions. He's perfect for us.

Our squad with him in it, would be far better than without. I get it's frustrating with teams signing players we ear marked.

And, yes Etitike could be good, but a player with one good season in Germany, or Wissa an established Premier League forward, goal scoring forward at that. Its not that much of a drop, if at all.

Totally agree. I often wonder if the people talking down have watched Wissa.

He's a fantastic little player and passes the eye test for me. I really value components of his game; he's very composed in the box, often in the right places for 2nd balls, decent defensively/on-the-press and surprisingly decent with his big shiny dome.

Hoping we can get him in for ±40m, bump him to a 4-5year and I think he'll still have value in 2-3 if we need to offload.
