Still have no idea if he's a good striker of a ball much less a good finisher, still an enormous gamble to be hedging our bets on him as a striker imo. We do know he's not strong, not quick and not particularly tenacious though which is alarming. If we go into next season with him as the main man, I'd be feeling apprehensive.

My feeling is that he's a Kai Havertz type without the aggression, and since we're not peak Liverpool under Klopp or peak Man City under Pep, we need a striker.

Just as well we brought Wissa in then isn't it.

I’m absolutely shocked to see getting the ball into his feet and getting players near him has produced results.

I honestly thought pumping balls up to him on his own or playing centre midfield would have been the answer.

He was offside though?

Sane gets booed by the home crowd when coming on… weird stuff

Sané is dividing fans in Germany, with the majority rejecting him. He shows his qualities far too infrequently. He scores a sensational goal or plays a sensational game about once every ten matches. But that's far too rare. On top of that, he contributes nothing defensively. He doesn't press effectively. And above all, his body language is provocative; he shows no willingness to run off the ball.

As you can see, I'm not a fan of his and wouldn't take him to the World Cup. Lennart Karl is worlds better and, at 18, has a future ahead of him. Despite everything, booing in the national team is unacceptable; idiots.

Ah you’re right that completely negates the point.

And also the defenders still managed to get back behind him in covering positions. A pass like that to a forward should result in a touch then shot on goal by the striker themselves.

IMO the midfield thing is way overblown. We're not trying to convert him to a CM, I don't even think we believe that's his best position. IMO it's just a way to get him in the team a bit while we rely on the tried and tested press to get us through a sticky period.

Kind of annoying to always see it referenced as if we think it's the solution to something. I'm 90% sure we don't.

That was brilliant play like. If he takes it forward onto his right foot it just gets blocked.

I'm sure some fans prefer players to just do the average thing rather than what is actually most effective.

I don't even think it's that, tbh. I feel like its to help him see the difference in the speed of the game here vs germany and reinforce how little time he's going to get before he gets the shit kicked out of him, so if he sees something he gets smarter and faster about pressing the advantage. He's getting his shit rocked in midfield but it's paying dividends when he's up front already. If Eddie didn't see a future for him he'd be sitting next to Wissa.

Ah, so now Eddie Howe is Mr. Miyagi?  Wax on, wax off, Nick, Wax on, wax off.

So it is beyond the realms of possibility that something that can be seen from some random (Sorry @Mike @AyeDubbleYoo) posters on an internet forum, would be too far fetched for a PL manager to see/implement? Woltemade is filling a hole in the squad, whilst also learning how to play in one of the fastest leagues in the world in the busiest position on the pitch. It is not implausible that Howe is bringing him up to "speed" on the fly, he doesn't have to be "Mr Miyagi" to know how best to build his players.

tbf Post Pardew Ian and I are fucking brilliant.

Thanks, I think

It’s not plausible that he’s trying to convert Woltemade into a CM. I dunno if it’s just because it happened one other time ever with Joelinton.

Yeah nah. He's doing the same thing he did with Miley with an eye on the future.

Think he could be a star at the world cup

I'm telling you, once he gets this mental thing behind him and starts putting a few in, the sky's the limit I think. Everything that's wrong is between his ears right now. Just needs a confidence boost.
