You're denying Nick pretty much every quality a striker needs.

That's what I'm wondering.

So which of those qualities does he have?

You write that he can't win headers – but he has scored goals with his head in the penalty area.

You write that he can't hold onto the ball – I remember scenes where he held onto the ball against three or four players.

You write that he can only finish balls that are played to his feet – I remember a goal where he poked the ball into the net with a full-body stretch.

In general play he can't win headers against defenders. He's scored what 2 goals for us with his head? Probably the same as Bruno this season

If you can show me scenes of him holding the ball up front in the Prem against 3 or 4 defenders I'd like to see it

And how come he is our second-best scorer with 7 goals, after Bruno (9 goals)?

I feel like that's a damning statement on the state of our attacking options, rather than a solid defence of Nick.

I think people have selective memories. He couldn't win a header playing up front

If the ball is played perfectly to his feet he's good. If it's not then he's pretty useless at holding the ball up or providing any threat in behind

Nick has as many goals off headers this season as Gordon has non-PK goals total. And that's just three I can think of. Wolves, Arsenal, Spurs.

Agree he looks terrible trying to win 50/50 balls in the air from 60 yard kicks Pope/Ramsdale but he's probably never been asked to do that and he definitely needs a solid season in the weight room putting on some muscle to make that work better.

No striker looks good playing up front alone and chasing aimless punts from the back. The odd one can occasionally turn one into an attack but it's incredible low percentage. And those big strong players don't tend to be technically great.

Page 278 and onwards provides a pretty good insight into the state of play prior to Howe trying something different with him. Feels like whenever he was at CF, we were calling him a midfielder; since he's been in midfield we've been calling him a striker.

I'm wondering how stupid Eddie must have been to hire such an incompetent blind player for so much money.

And Nagelsmann must be even dumber to call up such an incompetent player to the national team.

Must admit, I'll be watching Germany's games with some interest in the WC. I know it's probably a bit easier for a forward than the EPL, but he will still need to get on the end of stuff to be considered a success.

They play Curacao in their first game, with Wirtz, Gnabry and Musiala playing close to him he should have the Golden Boot stitched up by full time

Gnabry is injured and would not playing the WC.

Midfielder? The deepest position I can recall anyone suggesting he was is a 10, supporting striker/playmaker

I see, Germany will just have some bum like Sane, Havertz or Karl to slot in instead then, poor them

I think Nick needs some fire in his belly and a few extra pounds of beef on his bones. He has good feet but is just not strong enough to make it count, yet. I think given time he can come good, and I hope it is with us.

I don't think Nick will be in the starting eleven. If Havertz is fit, he'll play instead of Nick.

I would put Karl in Gnabry's position. I don't think much of Sané.

Fair enough; 'not a striker,' however you want to define it. You see what I'm getting at. There's no consensus on what he really is but his supposed mismanagement is continually a stick to beat the manager with. And maybe he could've made different choices but it gets way, way over-egged because the player himself just hasn't done enough despite featuring in nearly 50 games.

Wonder if I can cash out my bet on Woltemade winning the Golden Boot

If Havertz isn't 100% fit for the World Cup, there's a good chance Nick will play against Curacao.

And his odds for the Golden Shoe are certainly very good.

Fair enough, we can get bogged down in terminology. He hasn't done enough is correct but he's not as fucking useless as some are making out

Yeah, the bookies capped my stake at £6, bastards
