I was hoping that Turkey would have at least equalised to keep the group more live. As it is, USA definitely topped the group, Turkey definitely bottom and Australia and Paraguay will know that a point each will 99.99% see them both through. That will probably be the match to watch when played simultaneously, but much less jeopardy than had Turkey equalised.

 

That first half yesterday was one of the best halves of the tournament.

It’s very obvious that Almiron was saying something he shouldn’t to the Turkish player. They brought in a rule to try to stop this happening because people were being racist. Almiron almost comically did exactly the thing they were quite reasonably trying to stop. I don’t know how more clear-cut it could be.

Hope Turkey go berserk and batter the US, whether physically or in football terms. Both are things they are capable of
