Not sure where the Elswick - General Hospital - East / West Denton route would fit mind - they couldn’t be serious about making it all underground (could they?) I am still searching through my papers from those years, but I cannot remember any serious proposals being developed, and no City Council planning applications about it were ever made. West Newcastle was always the extension Tyne & Wear PTE wanted the most, but from day one it was dismissed as it was too expensive - sadly !! Whitley mag Posted October 8, 2023 Share Posted October 8, 2023 Those grade 2 listed buildings on boot boy alley still look like the major obstacle to me, alongside the cost of redesigning the Gallowgate. Hope it happens for those who desperately want to stay at SJP, still think East Stand is key though and reason that’s being looked at first. You can’t have a world class stadium with the East Stand in its current guise, think ultimately if they can’t do anything with that it’s back to the drawing board and re-location will be on the table. Somehow reconfigure the seating capacity plan there and put a see through glass corporate box on top of the stand? The box would have a view of the pitch on one side and the view of the city on the other side. Something really modern looking. Move all current corporate boxes to that side and replacing it with seats in the current stands. I was watching the F1 and was thinking about the VIP area above the paddock or pit stop and was thinking something similar above the East Stand. Expand The new Anfield stand is approaching year four since they went through local approvals. They've had various delays (Covid, contractor issues) but there was also five years before that where they had initial plans and then switched them. The most likely option is that they'll bring in expert architects and engineers who will come up with plans to demolish and rebuild the East Stand with a few extra thousand seats in it, and also sort out how to build the Gallowgate to level 7 without it being an issue for the metro beneath it.
