It's two rows of boards, that's why the look so big,

City had to remove around 1,100 seats to install them.

They could remove another 3300 and still not fill the ground, the soulless corporate wankers

If we could do something with the East Stand even if it means putting a glass extension then that would be amazing

Needs a new facade which cant be argued. May as well sneak a few yards back and a few extra rows in while were doing it I think

Main problems I see with the East Stand are that it doesn't hold that many people and there's no corporate in there. Coming at this from a purely maximising income perspective btw. If we're all about money in the bank then it makes sense to completely rebuild the East stand to have boxes running along the entire length of it, that's the best view but we currently only have that in the Milburn which is a blocker. Middle tier running from goal-line to goal-line on both sides would  be better financially surely? Nothing to say you couldn't raise the height a little maybe, rake it up as much as possible so you have a tier of normals at the bottom but squeeze in a couple of rows of boxes at prime viewing level.

Read that back to myself and it makes no sense but I know what I mean

I never really get the younger fans discussions tbh, how young are these younger fans?
I’m 40 and tbh, find the younger fans (late teens to early 20’s) to be absolute bellends for the most part both home and away.
I’ll split them into two easy groups….the wankers who have spaffed all over green street one two many times and the anti socialists who couldn’t talk there way through a dinner never mind a sing a song.

I always find it a bit of a shame for the older fans tbh, aye they may not all sing and may not always contribute to an atmosphere but for the most part they’ve been through thick and thin and deserve more credit than they get for the most part.

I honestly think that people’s ideas about what an atmosphere should be is incredibly inflated, maybe by a mixture of one off games and 30 second YouTube clips, I don’t know. Also, it’s not the 80’s anymore, we not in South America and my experience of Europe is that it’s mostly manufactured.

Turned out to be a bit of a rant there.

I didn’t really mean it as a criticism of the older fans. I’m 40 too and hope I’m still going in 20 or so years, and I doubt I’ll be jumping up and down singing. It’s not a good thing though the match going fan base just getting older and older with the club refusing to move people in the ground to sit with their mates.

I just think an extra 10k-15k on the gate, and having like minded fans generally sitting around each other would improve things. The oldies will still be there after going through thick and thin. Have to say though, not sure what being ‘anti-socialist’ has to do with anything.

I never liked that they ditched the boxes in the east stand in the first place, so we literally have a template of what you've described, at that time the regular seats were nearer to the pitch (not sure if they went too far to host international games etc). I don't know which version of the stand had the highest capacity.

Like you say, could have more room to play with if the previous 'Newcastle breweries' advert 'wall' was smaller and maybe the boxes at the top, with the regular seats going down from there. Think Villareal's stand but other way round.

If we do that, then I wonder if we could do similar to what they have at BMO field. Instead of corporate they have premium like seats. Basically they are sports style seats behind the advertising boards with things like drinks holders etc. They are the closest seats to the pitch, and sell at a premium price, but still affordable.

If they are going to put shitloads of corporate, just do it like La Bombonera and make the other three sides massive.

You even get the pretty external area of Leazes Terrace/St James’ Street as you approach.

I used to sit in the old East Enclouse (row CC which was 3 rows from the front) and it was very close to the pitch. Had the boxes behind us, and everyone would turn around and watch the replays of the goals on the TVs in them much to the annoyance of the corporate guests inside [emoji38]

I remember in our first Champions League campaign in 97/98 they couldn't sell the first few rows because they were too close to the pitch and obstructed by the higher advertising boards they used in the CL. The capacity of the stand definitely increased when it was remodelled as they added a few extra rows to the lower tier but even now the capacity of the entire stand is only 5,240 which isn't much for a stand that runs the length of the pitch. In comparison the Milburn Stand holds almost 15,000.

The crowd around me in the lower Leazes, right below the the away fans on Tuesday was old as fuck like. I dont know if im noticing it more, or if its not actually the same in other PL games. Seen more atmosphere in a doctors waiting room too. Felt like people didnt even celebrate the goal that much. Easily the worst area of the ground ive sat in. Of course, older people have as much right to go as anyone, at as has been said, theyve been there through thick and thin.

Extend the Gallowgate and make the whole thing safe standing* You'll get 80k radgies singing their tits off for 103mins

* ship the old cunts into a slightly extended East Stand that's been fitted with kermode seats

Ps I'm 60 and stink off piss

I think I remember this from the old black and white VHS.

I can't remember SJH mentioning about putting another deck on the milburn, obviously that plan got fast tracked with the addition of the leazes

Got to agree. If you pushed a few trolleys of castore into the bogs on the concourse there wouldn't be much difference. It's never felt like a shop

Where's the screens with Newcastle goals current/historical being scored?

Where's the big images of players on the walls like milburn, supermac, shearer?

The store in monument mall was far better

I was going pre-Keegan when it was really thin and home crowds were sub 20k. Most of the older fans now were old enough to be there then but they weren’t.

Safe standing wouldn’t add additional capacity unfortunately

I'll raise you, "A little white Bull" and "Why's the corner/scoreboard full of shit", grim as feck sometimes but always had a great time and  a warm wet leg.
