That would seem daft. Newcastle Thunder only get something like 200 fans, and aren’t in the Super League.

Seems pointless to limit the Stack to less than 10% of it’s capacity, especially when Super League clubs fans often mingle with each other before, during, and after games.

This is probably the main reason that new season tickets have not been offered for the last couple of years.  Knowing that there would be a need to temporarily relocate sections of the ground should a redevelopment take place.

I think we're simply following what other clubs are doing tbh. When you are getting guaranteed sell out crowds you can generate far more money by selling tickets game by game through memberships than season tickets.

For example Anfield holds 61k but they only allow 25k ST holders.

Someone senior at work knows the chosen planning consultant for the stadium expansion, They said this was moving quite quick now so maybe the decision has been made by the club?

I think if a decision had been definitely made it would have been leaked, if not announced.

Exactly. Clubs don't want to have demand that far exceeds supply, but they also really don't really want supply meeting the demand. They want to be able to charge as much as possible and by doing that you need to retain relative scarcity. Shit for fans, but I think people expecting them to deliver a mega stadium with capacity for all at comfortable ease are missing the economics of how every club is operating.

It's why so many clubs are striking on that 60-65k sweet spot rather than going bigger. I think if they can achieve that on the current site that's what they'll do. But it'll basically be a new stadium rather than an expansion as such, done in stages. Gallowgate/East Stand new build, followed eventually by the rest being re-done to match up.

Still think that or a new build on Castle Leazes are the only actual options.

Agree with the overall point being made but very surprised that Liverpool have only 25K ST holders. Where’s that from?

Cant see us building anything worthwhile 60-65K. I understand your point but that’s mainly in areas (London) that can afford inflated prices. You’d need more seats at lower prices model  up here to match revenues elsewhere.

I'm honestly not sure I agree, the model is universal, even in areas with similar economic situation to the north east (IE Liverpool/Everton).

It's depreciating returns once you get past a certain capacity size. They'll be more minded from a revenue point of view to increase corporate opportunities or to build a stadium that can host other events all year round. The latter would be the one thing that I think would push them towards another site given the construction constraints on the existing one.

That takes into account the cost of building a larger stadium, in theory that is not an issue for us. Depending on how PIF actually see us we might only be looking to maximise revenue with the cost not really being a factor.

I understand that there'd also be an element of scarcity driving demand, with a point where the balance tips and more availability could actually result in less demand. But I think that could probably be overcome to a large extent with big variations in pricing.

Google search says they have currently have 27,000 season ticket holders. They made an extra 1,000 available as they gradually extended from 45k up to 55k with the new tier on the main stand, to the 61k they have now with the Anfield Road expansion.

I don’t think it is though.

Barca and Real Madrid have rebuilt their stadiums recently, and their capacity is greater than what they initially had, and they weren’t regularly selling out, outside of El Classico.

Arsenal don’t visually sell out the Emirates either, and in recent weeks they have announced that they are looking into expanding.

Even the Milan clubs are circling back to having a new super capacity San Siro, over building their own smaller stadiums.

To cut the story short, Taylor Swift (and others) sell out stadiums. The clubs want that income. I recently read an article on it, and they were literally calling some of the new stadiums being built as Swiftdomes.

Don’t get me wrong, I think we would struggle to sell out 90k-100k, but at 80k I’d expect us to either sell out, or come fairly close to doing so (so long as the club continues to show some ambition).

I also think that if we do get say an 80k capacity stadium, we’ll only see a max of 10k additional season tickets available.

All in all, I think they have already made their decision, they likely settled on it after the initial feasibility study, and likely had it as a plan going into it.

Well in recent articles we have heard that people involved with it, both at the club, and with 3rd parties, have all had to sign NDA’s. I think even council workers have had to sign them.

We have also seen many journalists who cover the club change their attitude from wanting a SJP extension/rebuild, to a new stadium.

I don't think we'd get anywhere near 80K tbh. 60-65K would be the right amount.

Would it? We had a queue of over 40k for the members resale of our Liverpool match yesterday. We have a membership number of approximately 100k. We have as many members applying for tickets each match, as we have season ticket holders, if not more.

We all know why the queue was so big for that game so let's not get into that. There were still tickets for the West Ham game a week after the resale.

i was on a tour the other day and one of the folks taking us round mentioned January when we might start to hear things

prices on boxes and stuff was an eye opener

40k for an 8 seater box, 88k for a 12 seater, a good few of the players seem to have them as well

Callum Wilson has one directly on the halfway line, i looked through the window but couldnt see a treatment table in there :-)

also mentioned the ST's for the likes of Joe Harvey and Bobby Robson suite are like gold dust

edit: also confirmed the 300 business/10 year waiting list....
