I think Houllier is a sound manager to be fair and has created a formiddable team with Lyon albeit after taking over when they were still quite strong. In my opinion, a DOF needs to be in that position for a long period to build an effective scouting/youth network. Roeder may be happy to work with Houllier, they are known to have strong respect for one another, but when Roeder goes, we'd want the DOF to remain a DOF. Managers probably wont want to work under Houllier because he is too much of a manager himself. So the only option would be to make Houllier manager, or to sack Houllier, which would bring us back to square one in terms of improving the club structure. Maybe an upcoming Championship manager or someone like Coleman or Bothroyd! With Houllier experience behind them I think something like that could work. I would prefer a similar partnership to the Evans/Houllier at Liverpool, with a nice smooth change over... the last thing we need is yet another manager being fired and left in the dark when the next one comes in! If it were to happen, the outcome is entirely predictable and the ends would probably justify the means. It's a difficult one to call, but it's more of a slow progression than a big fuck-off upheavel. I really can't see Houllier coming to assist Roeder like, although stranger things have happened. I bet Roeder would be more effective with a DOF alongside him, mind, as it would give him more time to focus on the coaching/motivation/selections. Actually, wait...
