Guest elpapi
didn't read anything about this on the forum... Belgian media suggest that Newcastle had to take up the option to keep Onyewu next year before April 15th, they then asked for some more time until April 20th, they haven't done this yet, so Belgian media are sure he won't be playing for Newcastle (and Standard) next season Not a big surprise, knowing he couldn't get a game in our last games... So does this mean that Bramble is staying and getting a new contract? Otherwise we're stuck with Taylor, Ramage, Huntington and Edgar as central defenders (no Moore, Bramble or Gooch) Then we'll need a leftback and 2 central defenders. Cajun
Bramble, Moore and Gooch are gone and Roeder will try and bring in replacements in the summer. I think he will be happy with 2 new lads, Taylor possibly partnering one and Ramage as back up with young Hunts and Edgar going out on loan with a call back option if needed. All imo of course. Guest elpapi
This thread title should have a question mark on the end. no it shouldn't from the official website of Standard Luik: "21/04/2007 - Oguchi Onyewu Newcastle United lichtte de optie niet op Oguchi Onyewu binnen de voorafgestelde termijn. Onyewu wordt bijgevolg dan ook niet definitief getransfereerd naar de Engelse club. Herinneren we er iedereen aan dat Standard het contract met zijn speler in januari herzag, en dat de verdediger bijgevolg de komende twee seizoenen nog verbonden is aan de Rouches. Geschreven door La Direction du Royal Standard de Liège" Translation: "Newcastle United didn't take the option for Onyewu before the deadline, therefor Onyewu won't be transfered to the English club. Standard revised his contract in January (in order to loan him), so he's under contract at Standard for the coming 2 seasons." That's pretty clear actually. junkhead
he wasn't the worst defender and gave us some much needed height at set pieces.. but hey, we have a high standard here.. just hope Glenn realises sooner rather than later that we don't have the funds to acquire more than a couple decent players.. and as Moore and Bramble seem to be heading out, we'll need at least three new defenders, unless his plan includes Carr and Babayaro taking the piss out of the fans on regular basis for another season. Ben Haim and Distin would probably cost the same with signing on fee's and both are much more capable defenders.
tmonkey
Distin and Woodgate. One on a free and a rarely injured, consistent, pacey performer at Premiership level, the other should go for a reasonable price and is a world class centreback prone to injuries. Both have played for us, both are currently playing for clubs with considerably less potential than us.

toptoon
he hasn't impressed maybe he deserves more time but on what we've seen so far, we need better. Gooch, Bramble and Moore should all be booted out. Taylor is top quality we need a top quality partner for him we should keep and work on improving Ramage,Hunty and Edgar as back ups.
