Just been on SSN that the rest of Englands games clash with LA Galaxy games, not just any games though there are some derby games in there, there are games where England and LA play on the same day, there are also games only a day apart from each other. So its obvious he cant do both, will LA react if Beckham chooses country over club? this will be interesting.

LA will just have to suffer tbh.  As if Beckham's going to agree to a soccerball matchup against Columbus Crew ahead of a Euro qualifier.

I don't think LA have a choice about this. Clubs have to release players for international duty. They've got a right to be pissed off though, because the deal was probably struck with the assumption on both sides that Beckham's international career was over.

In the circumstances, and in view of the money they're paying him, I'd say on moral grounds, Beckham should be putting his club first.

I don't care where he is playing his league football, when he can put crosses in like he did last night then the ginger one MUST pick him!!

Dyer looked bright when he came on and got past players but nothing came of it in the end, a few corners won but no deadly ball into the box like Becks can supply.

I don't know the situation but Lalas said the other day omn soccernet (I think) he can go and play as long as they don't clash with playoff games. He basically said if they clash with playoff games at the end of the season then LA will just have to suffer the consequences as those games are too important to release him for.

Galaxy didn't pay for Beckham, the MLS did.

If the league want Beckham to play so badly, they could easily reschedule their matches around Beckham.

That would be madness but possible.

The thing i stuggle with is regardless if they dont have a say in releasing Beckham for England, they are paying 500k a week for him and he will get millions from LA for being here and playing in a different team.

He'll play for England, no doubt about it.  Only 5 caps off 100.

He's really stupid for going to America, though.  Fair enough I would for the money he's getting, but he still has another 2 years of top class football in him.

He'll probably come on loan here for half a season or something

It certainly won't be lost on Ashley the £££ he could make selling shirts with 7 Beckham on the back in his Sports Soccer shops.

This is LA's fault.  They have been selling massive amounts of tickets, home & away, on the premise that Beckham will turn up.  Fixtures that would normally have been half full are sold out.

They knew he could have been called up again for England or injured himself.  And if they didn't plan for that fact, then they deserve the embarassment.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect someone who is getting paid 25m pounds a year to actually turn up and do his job, though, does it?

Personally, i think he shouldn't be picked. He basically threw away any football credibility he had left when he agreed to go and play in a pub league because his wife likes it over there, and he gets to hang out with Tom Cruise.

A serious case of getting his priorities fucked up. And as for all those people saying what a superhuman colossus he is for bouncing back ... he got dropped, he found some form, he got recalled. Big deal. He's hardly beaten cancer or something.

right now the Gold Cup (north/central american international tournament) is taking place, and most MLS teams are losing 2/3 players for a few weeks, so losing players to international duty isn't anything new in MLS.

But a profesional football club shouldn't be marketing tickets to their fixtures (and selling quite a few) based solely on the presence of one player.

They've sold out the Chicago v. LA match here and others across the country months in advance (when it is usually only half full) and now the idiots in LA are panicking because he might not turn up.  A contingency they really should have planned for.  If they were a football club and not a celebrity circus.

I think LA has recently said that Beckham could play for England.

Lalas told BBC Radio Five Live: "We adhere to FIFA's rules and regulations regarding the release of any of our players.

"And if David continues to be called up for England we'll drive him to the airport.

"Let's be honest, it's not only an honour for him but also for the Galaxy and the fact we can say one of our players is named in the England squad, I think it's a wonderful statement on the quality that exists at the Galaxy."

Lalas also insists the competition in Major League Soccer is high enough to keep Beckham fit and sharp.

"We have a very high level over here. Any player that comes over here can continue to develop and I think if David is called back in that England is going to get a player that is physically and mentally sound and in form."

Lalas, who played in Serie A with Padova in the mid-1990s, also insisted the club would release Beckham for Euro 2008 - should England qualify - despite the competition taking place over three weeks in June, during the MLS season.

"We play an international game here and our fans understand that and we understand that and the bigger picture is important," Lalas continued.

"The fact we have players that are good enough to be called up to some of the best national teams in the world that is a wonderful statement on where we are.

"Next year is a long way away, a lot of things can happen.

"You can only look at what has happened in the last couple of months with regard to David to know things change pretty quickly in the world of football."

Just what the hell do you think sporting events are? They are always a celebrity circus. People showed up to see the Bulls because Jordan played. They showed up to see the Oilers because of Gretzky. They showed up for the Brazil England match to see Ronaldinho<sp?>. Probably around half of the people that show up for a sporting event are true fans. The rest are there for the spectacle. Thats just the reality of modern day multimillion dollar contract sports.
