Decky Posted June 7, 2007 Share Posted June 7, 2007 Just been on SSN that the rest of Englands games clash with LA Galaxy games, not just any games though there are some derby games in there, there are games where England and LA play on the same day, there are also games only a day apart from each other. They've got a right to be pissed off though, because the deal was probably struck with the assumption on both sides that Beckham's international career was over. Dyer looked bright when he came on and got past players but nothing came of it in the end, a few corners won but no deadly ball into the box like Becks can supply. He basically said if they clash with playoff games at the end of the season then LA will just have to suffer the consequences as those games are too important to release him for. That would be madness but possible. The thing i stuggle with is regardless if they dont have a say in releasing Beckham for England, they are paying 500k a week for him and he will get millions from LA for being here and playing in a different team. Fixtures that would normally have been half full are sold out. They knew he could have been called up again for England or injured himself. He basically threw away any football credibility he had left when he agreed to go and play in a pub league because his wife likes it over there, and he gets to hang out with Tom Cruise. A serious case of getting his priorities fucked up. And as for all those people saying what a superhuman colossus he is for bouncing back ... he got dropped, he found some form, he got recalled. LA match here and others across the country months in advance (when it is usually only half full) and now the idiots in LA are panicking because he might not turn up. Lalas told BBC Radio Five Live: "We adhere to FIFA's rules and regulations regarding the release of any of our players. "And if David continues to be called up for England we'll drive him to the airport. "Let's be honest, it's not only an honour for him but also for the Galaxy and the fact we can say one of our players is named in the England squad, I think it's a wonderful statement on the quality that exists at the Galaxy." Lalas also insists the competition in Major League Soccer is high enough to keep Beckham fit and sharp. "We have a very high level over here. Any player that comes over here can continue to develop and I think if David is called back in that England is going to get a player that is physically and mentally sound and in form." Lalas, who played in Serie A with Padova in the mid-1990s, also insisted the club would release Beckham for Euro 2008 - should England qualify - despite the competition taking place over three weeks in June, during the MLS season. People showed up to see the Bulls because Jordan played. They showed up to see the Oilers because of Gretzky. They showed up for the Brazil England match to see Ronaldinho<sp?>. Probably around half of the people that show up for a sporting event are true fans. The rest are there for the spectacle. Thats just the reality of modern day multimillion dollar contract sports.
