Kuyt has stated publicly he would like to play in England next term - apparently ruling out Barcelona and Valencia. If Newcastle are already set on bringing the Dutchman to the North-East then Kuyt's absence from his country's World Cup team could help. After only one start in this summer's tournament - in which he played on the left of a front three and failed to last the full 90 minutes - Marco van Basten is doing his best to keep the player's talents under wraps. Kuyt did play the full 90 minutes against Argentina. Kuyt is going to play in the starting line-up against Portugal as well but now as the central striker and Ruud wil be on the bench.. He added: "So it never got past first base. "Alan will want to finish his career in the black and white and retire at the end of the season. "He's said it is what he plans to do and once he has made a decision he never goes back on it. "I can understand why Martin would have wanted Alan to join Celtic. I would sign him, but you have to look through really magic glasses if you say he had solid game today. He was poor. But, good thing might be that this might just drop his price a little..
