NUFC not the subject of the police raids - Statement

Can it be that simple? If you had asked any Newcastle supporter which transfer they would query the most following the Panorama programme we would all say without hesitation - Boumsong.

SBR didn't think he was good enough on a free.

Rangers sign Boumsong for nowt

Souness becomes our manager

We spend 8M on Boumsong shortly afterwards

Boumsong is crap

This made either SBR or Souness a terrible judge of a player or suggested that the latter may have had an agenda. You have to assume that Souness does know a good footballer when he sees one.

I hope our private thoughts are true as it will explain quite a bit of the mess he made with the squad & wipe that smug look off his face when he talks about his time at the club. I felt taken for an idiot at the time.

To what extent, if any, FF is implicated is anyones guess but he must be sweating.

When we bought Bumsong, there were LOTS of people on message boards telling people how good he was - and I mean LOTS.

Of course, it may have been on the basis that he was a foreigner and cost a lot of money - ala Luque - but that is true.

When Souness was appointed, there were people on message boards telling people he was "a top boss." - and I mean "TOP".

Was there now ?

I remember an accountant backing his financial ruin of the club from the day he came until the day he left ?

I remember a chairman doing similar.  STILL hasn't sunk in, has it?

but they weren't Rangers fans.

They're probably the same people excited about Rozenhal. Best not to make a judgement  until they've been seen in action, otherwise  there'll always be someone to say "told you so".

there was quite a few links to some Rangers fans saying he was canny, but they have gone now. It doesn't really matter now anyway, but you think people would learn not to glamourize these foreigners

No Gemma, I still think it hasn't sunk in with you yet, that unfortunately qualifying regularly for europe - more than everybody bar 4 clubs - is hardly a disaster. Congratulations on forecasting the financial success that Souness turned out to be, you're a credit to your profession mate.  mackems.gif Not to mention the fact that you still don't understand the significance of backing managers, as against clubs that do not.

A bit difficult to understand this one, particularly as you have seen the results of having a board at NUFC who don't back managers

- or so you say anyway.

unbelievably the backing of the manager in itself may have led to the club somehow being conned out of money. These things can happen when you go 5 years without a Finance person on your board  :(

Possibly, but I would say if the managers professional judgement says a player is worth 8 million and he turns out to be worth 8 quid, there is only one person to blame

I doubt the police are involved because Souness's professional judgement was wrong, there'll be an awful lot of worried football managers around if that is what they are persuing. The club statement says that the club will prosecute if they have been victims of a criminal activity. Souness had no access to money, it cannot be him they are interested in.

he may have had no access to money but in the past managers have taken kickbacks from the agents etc.not saying he did but it is feasable he could be implicated this way.

Not long after the polis are called in

In between all this Mort and Co are investigating club practices as part of their review...

According to eye witness reports in Jesmond Park West, one of the homes visited appears to be Freddy Shepherd's residence - visited at 8.30am. This is still to be confirmed....

that isn't what me and you were discussing though. We were talking about how many or how much people were rating Bumsong as a footballer.

We do not know who is implicated here, it has happened before at other clubs.

NE5 - Fat Fred's Message Board Minder doing a grand job as usual. Backing  a gormless prick like Souness after wrongly appointing him "was the fault of the 1970's board..blah..blah..dribble"

yes, I can't think of a club that's been retrospectively punished for dodgy transfers

by the look of it,what stephens said,as regards nufc, and the statement to the stock exchange it may well be that the boumsong transfer is under scrutiny but not nufc's actions.

why does Bort have mates in the City Police? I doubt he ever does CPS work

With him being a city lawyer & City Of London Polcie being the specialist force in city crime paths may/would of crossed,friendships/contacts/bonds formed. If he hasnt got contacts I would imagine a colleague at Freshfields would.

does he work for the CPS then?

He works for Freshfields.

I work in housing & not for the CPS but have contacts with the Police because of my job. Do you reckon a financial law firm will not engage or deal with City Of London police the specialist force in city/business crime & friendships & relationships form?

I think it is entirely possible this police action has arisen from the review Mort is conducting into club affairs.

Of course he would reveal information to the police that had the potential to damage the club if left uncovered.

A new broom sweeps clean as they say.

If he has ever dealt with the police, which I doubt given his positon, it would be as defending counsel in a criminal investigation, a position that does not engender frienship FFS

You don't need a mate in the police to report a crime for crying out loud

no need to apologise, conversations often drift, thats life

Time will tell what is going on here, but it is entirely possible that an individual may be implicated with Fred being innocent, much to your annoyance  ;D

It is also possible that this is not the case but we just don't know yet do we, so why speculate unless you have a reason ?

Its human nature to speculate, especially about the game thats all about opinions, and especially on the internet, and especially when its on a NUFC forum.

This place is designed for shit like this.

of course TT, but it made me smile to see macbeth popping up again when he thinks there is a chance to have a pop at fred or the finance at the club.

I know what I hope this is all about...

Possibly, but to me it seems there could be more to it. The raids are apparently the result of an arrset made in Manchester a couple of months back and with three clubs involved it looks to me as if it's the result of a wider investigation. That;s not to say the club haven't uncovered anything during the review and passed it on.

Why would I do that ?

Don't you think there will be more than a few frustrated people around if he isn't implicated at all ?

The only thing I'm bothered about is how much Ashley backs the manager. If he doesn't do what people expect, whatever are they going to say ?
