That goal against Everton.

Said it was his favourite NUFC goal when I asked him

Favourite career moment was playing for England at Portman Road (fair enough I suppose).

I'm sure he got booed when he played up here for them.

Dyer was very fast, had brilliant close control and was excellent at bringing the ball forwards from midfield. But his decision-making in the box and finishing were frustrating. His numbers were never as good as they should have been, and obviously he had loads of injuries.

In a modern 433 he could play in Willock's position but probably on the LW as well. As one of a 2 in the middle of a 442 he probably had too much defensive responsibility to affect the game going forward as much as he could.

Can remember thinking "Why haven't we tried this before?" when he played up front vs Southampton in the FA Cup. He scored a brace and looked amazing. Really talented player but his availability and end product were always the main frustrations holding him back.

Was great for the counter-attack and relieving pressure. We knew if we were defending deep, give the ball to him and he'd carry us 50 yards up the pitch. He was also one of the only players that maintained his level under Robson, right through Souness and Roeder.

He was a superbly gifted player - but anyone my age (41) who drank most nights on the Quayside in the late ‘90s - mid-‘00s have a good idea as to how professional he was, and why he might not have made the most of his undeniable talent

Refused to play on the wing for Bobby then played on the wing for England the next week, didn’t he?

Yep.  Vs the Smoggies, when he also didn’t track a runner for their equaliser.

So easy to forget just how unpopular much of that team was - albeit talented

Interesting to see how that team would line up in today's game. Noone plays 442.

Would Solano play the Trippier role?Robert dropped or would he now invert?

Having a front 3 of Dyer, Shearer and Bellamy would be immense.

It's crazy everyone played with 2 strikers until Jose brought Drogba in.

It would probably be something like this

Given

Solano Woodgate Bramble Speed

Jenas Viana

Dyer Bellamy Robert

Shearer

4-2-3-1

The midfield would get destroyed, needs a DM, unless Speed goes CM and Bernard comes in

Full backs still play full back today - we don’t play CMs and wingers there

Solano had played RB for country and Boca? Back then we had Aaron Hughes at RB who was a CB even back then and we were linked to a tonne of RBs for years before settling for Carr.

Think Speed would play CM, he would be a solid 8 and could rotate the 6.

Solano joined us as a RB, so he could play there

Speed played LW and CM.  He wouldn’t be a LB

I’m shit at interviewing, but here’s a chat I had with Kieron about PSC.

Hmmm

Tricky players are Solano - would play FB or CM not on the wing.

Dyer - would probably play as an 8 in a 433

Bellamy ended his career at LW which makes sense

Robert would play RW mostly

Latter day Speed would be a tidy 6. We could actually do with that profile of player. An older 6 with great experience to fill in when needed.

Latter day big Al would struggle as a lone 9 IMO.

3-5-2 or 3-4-3 would benefit big Al.
