Sometimes I get the impression that you would be gutted if the club doesnt fail because you will lose the chance to whine and bitch ad nauseum each day. We should aim to be a top seven club next season. If we start spending some of the £30 million Liverpool paid us up front, secure Barton on a new contract, then who knows, he may stay. I won't "slam" the club for selling him this summer, we have no choice tbh. I do however, think that we should have offered him a new contract upon promotion. So if he can leave, then all of them will as soon as a better club comes in for them so it is a case of enjoying them whilst we can. Don't think it's as clear cut as that, but I know what you're saying. In my opinion he is an integral part to the way we play and he's the best left back I've seen at NUFC. Plus, since Carroll has left, we've played the ball on the deck alot more, every cloud and all that shite. Not saying I'm happy he's gone, just trying to look for positives! Do you think we're going to be able to persuade him to forget European football, playing for a more ambitious club and a nice signing on fee (when he signs for said club) for a £10k a week pay rise? I doubt the salary will be the deciding factor either way. If we strengthen a bit and he decides he can get into the Spain team playing for us, we've got a chance of keeping him.
