"Leighton Baines might be a possibility," Allardyce told the Daily Star.

"He hasn't moved from Wigan yet and we need a defender."

Thats what i read.... so it could sound promisin.... Maybe if we get this enrique guy, maybe he actually plans to play him left midfield and still get baines... O0

Aye, while we may not be able to claim to have two actual players for every position, it seems Allardyce is at least looking for players who can play more than one position.

So if he gets Baines as his first choice Left Back, he may also get Enrique to play left wing, and also cover left back.

Similar things can be said about Capaca & Smith.

Be shocked if we're after this Enrique and Baines, it'll be one or the other surely?

Both seem very similiar, good young prospects at LB. I'm not much of a fan of rotation when it comes to your defence so I'd prefer we just chose one and went with him. We'll have Dragutinovic for depth, hopefully, and then Babayaro as 3rd choice.

As for playing Enrique on the left of midfield, don't see that happening. Firstly, we'll probably play 4-3-3 a fair bit next year. Secondly, we have N'Zogbia and eventually Duff to play hat role. Milner as well is an option.

Spend the money on a similiar RB instead, we'd be fucking laughing then.

Read the article, he mentions Enrique and say 3 more completely disregarding Cacapa. I'm including Cacapa and saying 2 more.

No, he mentions Cacapa and then 3 more with one of them being Enrique:

Sam to make more signings

by Luke Edwards, The Journal

SAM Allardyce still hopes to make another three signings before the close of the transfer window as Newcastle United finally made two crucial breakthroughs yesterday.

Newcastle’s manager was able to welcome Alan Smith and Brazilian international Claudio Caçapa from Lyon as his patience finally paid off. Both players – who have cost a combined £9m in fees and wages – are expected to make their Newcastle debuts against Sampdoria at St James’s Park tomorrow.

And Allardyce, who admitted last week he was becoming increasingly worried by the lack of new arrivals, has instantly targeted another three players, with Villareal’s 21-year-old left-back Jose Enrique due on Tyneside next week to finalise a five-year-contract.

After talks with chairman Chris Mort on Monday Allardyce hinted he could be about to make his biggest signing yet at St James’s Park. He said: “I’m still about three players away. Don’t forget I’ve always wanted four, so if Kieron goes out and Alan comes in, I haven’t got one extra. I’ve just got a replacement for one, so I still need four. I was good at maths at school.

“If Claudio comes in that’s one of them and three to go. The availability of quality players is limited, the prices are huge, so we’ll have to keep competing as best we can at that level to bring them in. In the end, if I spend big money on two rather than medium money on three, if that’s the opportunity I get, I might do that. But at the moment strength in depth is lacking.”

For now, though, Allardyce is happy to discuss what his latest recruits would bring to the squad after admitting some people might be surprised with his decision to land Smith. He said: “It’s been a good 24 hours with Alan and Claudio signing. They are two crucial players. People might be surprised I’ve gone for Alan Smith but when you get a quality player of his calibre available in the market, I just couldn’t turn my back on it.

“He’ll be tremendous for the club, he’ll prove that over the next four or five years and he’s a very versatile player. His only reason for leaving Old Trafford was a lack of games. He wants to play football, not be paid well and not play. That’s one of the reasons why I signed him.”

Enrique, who is regarded as one of the most promising youngsters, is reported to be ready for a £4m switch, with the player’s imminent arrival likely to signal the end of United’s interest in Wigan’s Leighton Baines.

However, there was some bad news for United yesterday when Allardyce confirmed fears Michael Owen was likely to miss the start of the season with a thigh strain.

Allardyce said: “It doesn’t look as encouraging as we first thought. The tear in the muscle hasn’t healed as quickly as we would like, so there’s no point in making any rash decisions just to get him fit.”

Meanwhile, reserve keeper Tim Krul has joined Falkirk on loan until January .

The four Edwards refers to are: Cacapa, Enrique and two other signings.

If we sign any 2 of Enrique, Baines and Drago then Babayaro should be shipped out immediately.

If we sign Baines and Enriqie then yes, absolutely, as we'll have two specialist LB's at the club that are significantly better than Baba.

But if it's Drago and one of Baines or Enrique, as I suspect, then I'm not adverse to keeping him as we may need Dargo to fill in at CB at times. Id be much more comfortable with Babayaro at LB in the event of an injury crisis than Ramage/Edgar. Having said that, though, we could potentially plug in N'Zogbia there.

So I'm not arsed, either way.

Ship him out. He shouldn't get another penny from this club for sitting on the bench all season long again.

Your mixing two different sets of comments mate. I was only looking at what Edwards said, not Allardyce.

But never mind I surrender as it's completely irrelevant really. :)

Drago sounds like a quality CB who can play LB as well, i hope we bring him in, even at the expense of one of the other two.

We don't really need Baines & Enrique, one will do, but Drago offers more and i hope were still going for him.

Out of Baines & Enrique, i have only the fans reaction to go by, but it sounds like they are selling us their Steven Taylor, so i desperately want him in as well.

All three would be magic, but slightly overkill unless Babayaro has decided to walk away or were playing 3 at the back.

Jose Enrique, a right back (possibly someone who can also play centre back) and a dm most probably.

Geremi and Butt can play DM very well

I think those two as regular dm starters is terrible for a team aspiring for european football tbh

Butt was argueabley our best player last season and a candidate for captain. Geremi's performances so far have been of the highest quality playing in that position. There aren't many sides that qualified for uefa cup last year that have a better pair of defensive midfielders.

However, i would like us to sign Diop in case Geremi needs to revert to right back.

I cant see Owen playing In that position personally, he dosent like running with the ball like he used to, wouldnt like getting back and I just dont think he'd play that position very well, unlike Smith or Milner.

If we do manage to get Enrique and Drago I'll be a very happy man, if we managed to follow that up with a right back I'd be ecstatic. We would then be able to play Geremi as a DM where he has looked very assured so far.

Bolton line-up will be something like this IMO

--------------- Given

Carr -- Taylor -- Rozenhal -- Dragutinovic

---------------- Butt

-------- Geremi -- Smith

Milner ----------------------- Martins

-------------- Viduka

Will be a very physical game I would expect, exactly the type of game I'd expect Dargo is being bought to play LB in. Midfield should stand up well for themselves and all.

Thats a very good line up IMO but away from home i think SA will go for a 4-5-1 formation.
