Taylor Swift
Goalkeepers Shay Given Steve Harper Tim Krul Fraser Forster Now that Krul is on loan and given not being able to keep himself fit for a significant amount of time stretching back ever since he got injured at West Ham away last season, we need one extra body here. Given's injury doesn't look too serious and Harper's a solid enough backup but one body's still needed. Rightbacks Stephen Carr Geremi Nobby Solano Steven Taylor This a position in need of real strengthening. Carr isn't good enough to be a starter, Geremi's been excellent so far in the middle of the park and we would lose more than gain if we shifted him back, and lastly, Solano seems to be leaving which means this is our weakest position. Leftbacks Jose Enrique Charles N'Zogbia Cacapa Celestine Babayaro Enrique is, from all accounts, a promising talent. The LB position can be looked at in different ways. One, we still need to strengthen because Zoggy and Cacapa are not natural LBs, and of course Baba's hardly ever fit. On the other hand, we've just spent £6m on Enrique and can make do with makeshift LBs. We're not Chelsea, we're hardly going to be challenging on all fronts therefore we can use the versatility of the squad to our advantage. Centerbacks Steven Taylor David Rozehnal Cacapa Peter Ramage Paul Huntington David Edgar Feels like I've forgotten someone but even so, this is a position that should be strengthened. If Rozehnal can keep this up then our first-choice pairing is good enough but if one of the two suffers an injury, we'll have to throw one of the kids in or let the untried Cacapa play. I'm not sure if we'd be better off by signing an experienced back-up ala Andy O'Brien () but my gut says this position isn't as strong as possible. Sam still has some work to do but just looking at the list above compared to the list from last year's and it's clear that we've improved significantly. Edit - Wasn't sure if I should have written this as an article for the front page
Colos Short and Curlies
If Faye comes in them centre back is sorted. Wouldn't have any problems with any pairing for Taylor-Roz-Faye-Cacapa Edgar has looked decent in his cameo last season so he'll do for 5th choice. Huntington I'm undecided on, Ramage I'd peddle if an offer came in Agree on right back, if we could get in a solid right back then 5th place could be a realistic position for us come May
Andy
I should have written this as an article for the front page INSTEAD because you lot are not good enough for my outstandingly intelligent opinions Haha, such supreme arrogance. Anyway, you're bang-on. Right back and a centre half and I think we're looking alright. Certainly when compared to last years squad.
geordie2000
If we get another CB (Faye?) then I feel that Huntington and/or Edgar will be allowed to go out on loan until at least January. which can only be a good thing in their development
Guest David Kelly
I would have thought Taylor would be more of a cover for Left Back than Cacapa seeing as he's played there before but other than that I agree. We could do with one more centreback and Faye seems an ideal signing (price, flexibility and league/SA experience). I still feel very uneasy about Carr being our first choice rightback. Carr can't be, if we don't want to be opened up every game. As for Cacapa, keep up man! He's been established by the many N-O posters who avidly watched subs benches across France last season that he is the greatest defender to stride across any back four, ever, and a guaranteed success in any position he plays. La Parka
I thing Geremi will be moved to RB and Faye to cover midfield till Joey (unless imprisoned) returns.
AyeDubbleYoo
The best thing about our defence is that it is no longer a set of comedy performers who are just waiting to be torn apart and/or make a horrible error that leads to a goal. I don't think we can underestimate how much more seriosuly we will be taken in seasons to come because MOTD and the like aren't showing a horror display by the toon back four every saturday night. We do need to strengthen at RB, but other than that I'd say we're good to go 'til January and beyond.

Annoyed that he can't do it about Dyer anymore, NM begins to put words in the mouths of other people about Cacapa instead.
Ronaldo
I rate Cacapa as a very good player and Rozenhal as a good player. Got to admit, I'm dissapointed we haven't got a real top class CB approaching his peak in
Guest sittingontheball
Its a shame about Distin and Ben Haim, but I'm pretty optimistic about what's happened on the whole. A new RB and I'll be happy. If he weren't such a good midfielder, Geremi might have done the trick. If Nobby's going, we deffo need an RB. My only gripe is that I would have liked to see a playmaker. After last season, goals for worries me more than goals against. The strikers are there and supposedly near fit, so we just need a provider. The Zog and Milner are still a bit raw. Guest henke
Im reasonably happy with our defense, for the first time, well ever. Baba wants shot though. Id sooner play with ten men than start him, its much safer.
Rich
Cacapa can play right-back, but I've never heard of him playing left-back. Would still love a specialist right-back, Faye and a left-footer who can play CB/LB - but I'm an exceptionally greedy bastard. I don't actually mind Babayaro playing, but he's never bloody fit. Left-back would be looking tasty if he'd quit being injured.

Rich
I thought Casapa was left-footed, isn't he? Nein. Caçapa was deployed both at right full-back and centre-half in his early days in France and made 15 appearances in 2001/02 as Lyon won their first French title. Taylor Swift
Cheers. This means it's even more important that we sign another left-footed player. Preferably someone who can also play CB as it'll sort out that need for a backup as well. What the fuck happened to that Dragon fella?!! So a CB/LB and a RB and our defence will be sorted! Dragutinovic wanted too much money, but is yet to sign a new contract with Sevilla unless I'm mistaken, there is still a very slight chance it could go through if he reduces his demands. I still think we'll be sniffing around Heinze and Sam's interest in Silvestre as well shows that we're looking for this sort of player, if one becomes available. I cannot see us getting Faye, a RB and a defender of this sort, though, it will be two of the three at best.
Guest Vigge
Fine Fine lets offer 35 million £ for Alves Chelsea got their 24 mil £ rejected so maybe we can pick him up for 35 mil, along with Fay defence would be sorted also we would have our big name signing blokes have been ranting on about . Rich
I thought Casapa was left-footed, isn't he? It is Caçapa man Caçapa is obviously right, but I think we could at least just go for Cacapa. You're never going to get people to type in ALT+whatever to do that every bloody time man, give it a rest. Or if you're that keen, at least tell people the combination is ALT+0231 with "Num Lock" on - you çpud
