he was a great bench option and sometimes starter for Villa in both a premier league season we only bettered on goal difference and in a fairly successful champions league campaign but not good enough for our bench apparently Also “wait till Howe coaches” him - isn’t that the popular war cry on here whenever a player gets linked
-
On Ramsey. He'd give us something completely different to Joelinton and can play out wide. He's also much better than and has a much higher ceiling vs Willock. The snobbery to Premier League players is real.
-
He's definitely not coming here. If he was interested he'd have signed by now imo. He's known of our interest for ages and just doesn't seem at all keen. Time to move on and I think the club probably have already.
-
Any value to be had in the Champo?
-
Aye, the hope is that we'd be buying a better bench this summer. Willock was fucking useless last season.
-
He’s played left midfield a lot rather than left wing like Gordon. If Howe signs him I’m sure he’ll have a plan for him but As I said I’m not arsed about Ramsay it could be any player. I’m arguing against the point that we should only be signing players that improve our first 11. We absolutely need a strong bench.
-
Villa have many other options to sell ahead of Ramsey, don't think we go for him.
-
Barcelona and Bayern Munich are apparently interested as well.
-
Palhinha available on loan seemingly and linked to Fulham & Man U. Just seems another one that a year ago you could have seen Villa go for as depth for a season. Could even argue he'd be starting in the holding role allowing Tonali & Bruno a bit more freedom.
-
How much is Ramsey going to cost? 40m? For bench options, surely there is better value for money out there? Especially, as we have key areas we need to prioritise.
-
Where would you play him seeing as his predominant position is on the LW?
-
I disagree. He was Challenging the first 11 for a very good Villa side. He’s a very good player. He’s better than what we’ve got outside our first 11 therefor improves us. I’m not too invested in wether we sign him or not but we do need good options outside of the first 11
-
I feel like depth is often overlooked in favour of selling, we can’t continue naming multiple goalkeepers and teenagers on our bench every game
-
You want someone who can challenge the 1st 11 - much like Barnes/Gordon but Ramsey doesn't do that for me.
-
Yeah, that’s nonsense. We aren’t buying a midfielder that’s better than Joelinton, Bruno or Tonali. So you’d be happy with Willock or Longstaff coming off the bench or starting games if any injuries? our bench options are largely terrible and I’m not against upgrading on them if we can afford it. Signing Ramsay wouldn’t be for non sporting reasons
-
Exactly. We’ve done our PSR shite last window, having to buy a player for a complete none sporting reason. Ramsey wouldn’t be to that level but we need players who will only improve our first 11 in the positions that are key. When you get them the squad improves naturally
-
He definitely doesn't, but we need to build a squad as well and you'd imagine at least one of our midfielders will move on this summer.
-
I just don't think we know (anyone knows) what the budget is, we have never known really, or certainly not in terms of summer windows anyway. If we sign Ramsey and then don't get a right winger in for example then there'd be hell on (and rightly so) but if we go for him, i think he'll be in addition to the 3 key areas we need to strengthen as opposed to instead of. Let's see anyway. 🤞🏼
-
Does Jacob Ramsey improve our starting 11? debatable - therefore massive pass from me
-
He’s decent but Villa fans question if he can hit the heights again after some bad injuries. And he’s another one who plays off the left. In any other period I’d be for it but we’re going to have to use our budget smartly and there are too many areas more of a priority
-
I think you under estimate how competitive the market is and what advantage that gives to the cartel clubs.
-
I really don’t know if Eddie meant we need to move quick as soon as the window opens or we need to be ready to go when the opportunity presents itself and clubs/players are ready to do business with us.
-
I think we'll manage another 8 days or so, to be fair.
-
I am not going to lie I thought we'd be out the traps straight away this Summer - we have seen how quickly the likes of Liverpool have attacked the market and I was expecting that. I have a horrible feeling it's PSR related and that we can't spend until 1st July when one of the years falls off the books. Another win for the cartel.
-
We need depth, especially if Longstaff goes (which it looks like he will). I do agree he seems to be very Willock-esque though, so it'll be interesting to see hat we do there if he comes in.
