  1. Looks like a tall Stephen Carr doing the draw.

    Other clubs' transfers

Damn, that rules Jenas out then. What other homegrown players can do that? Scott Parker, pass sideways and backwards that is.
  3. He had a fair few poor games last year, often against the poorer sides where he tried to play a more expansive game and ended up giving the ball away, hopefully he can cut that out as he still put in some outstanding performances against the better sides.
  4. It is. He is registered with the Premier League as 'Cheik', I doubt the club would get that wrong given all the paperwork required for work permit etc. http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/Teams/PlayerProfile/0,,10278~44277,00.html also from Wiki: Cheick Ismaël Tioté (pronounced /Ćĥèı-Ķ Tí-Ó-Ţĕ/) (born 21 June 1986) is an Ivorian footballer who plays for Premier League club Newcastle United and the Ivory Coast national team. He has been described as a "tough tackling defensive midfielder."[2] His name is frequently misspelled as "Cheik", but the player himself confirmed to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle newspaper that the correct spelling is "Cheick" I'll go with Chieck himself and the NUFC official site It certainly isn't with the 'i' before the 'e'.
  5. They can take it from wherever they want inside the 6 yard box.

I'd still be inclined to believe official Premier League documentation over even nufc.co.uk
  7. It says that on Wikipedia but there is no link to a source, do you have one? If not I'm inclined to go with what is on his official paperwork.

  9. Clapclap clapclap clapclapclapclapclap? Only noticed that in the last few years actually, would quite like to know this as well. Anyone else know when some of the other chants started as well? The likes of 'Toon, Toon, black & white army' and the Geordie boot boys one in particular. Stole it off Celtic a few years ago iirc.
  10. Sounds better than my dream that we lost 1-0 to Spurs on the first day of the season to a Mike Williamson header after they had signed him just days before as a replacement for Ledley King, for some reason the game was at White Hart Lane though and Alan Shearer was on the bench for us along with Beardsley and Andy Cole.
  11. I reckon we're hoping on Taylor staying fit and just having Good, Williamson, Perch as cover. Which will be fine if he does stay fit, as I was very impressed last year, but it's a big if. Massive 'if' given that he hasn't managed to stay fit for a full season for about 5 years.

    U23s & Academy

Never understand that to be honest. Are they just never that good to begin with? Seems to happen to our youngsters (often highly rated ones as well) more than other clubs, but that is probably just down to us actually having an interest in their careers as opposed to youngsters from other clubs. The vast majority of lads that go through the Academy system will not make a career out of professional football.

    U23s & Academy

The parameters for the gradings have been out for some time Club should have positioned itself better We basically cannot attract the top youngsters to the club now for at least 2 years. Unacceptable tbh As far as I am aware one of the criteria we didn't hit was not having a dedicated accommodation / living block for young players, that is not something that can be done quickly (land acquisition near Academy, building design, planning process, construction and so on). It's obviously a blow but don't discount the massive improvements made by MA in recent years just because we missed out on Cat 1 status, Boro and the Mackems have been way ahead of us in terms of youth development and facilities for a long time.
