Wasn't it around 32 pages on the Modric thread that he signed for the Spuds? That was nearly understandable though, seeing as we'd come out and said that we were after him, and a bid had definitely been made, etc. This one's just bizarre! quick. make loads of posts...get off page 32 then he's ours. if true thats a hell of a spot veggietoon veggietoon? got a problem with it ?

maybe, I take the view that you should take opportunities, and also the attitude that you should ask yourself "he may be a good player but is he good enough for us". As a starting point I would go out and buy Bentley and if they want 15m just pay it. Far better than buying 2 sub standard players and repeating in 12 months time exactly what we are saying now. Edit: Ref the youth system, I can tell you that the mackems and smoggies have always looked after youngsters ie very young ones, better than Newcastle. Where has that got them ? How often have they been above us ? I'm not denying its a good step, of course it is, but give some credit for the new training academy which in actual fact has been over 50 years overdue at newcastle, at least. Even if we don't go for Bentley it's players of his age and quality that we should be aiming for, which is what I think the club want to do. As for the academy, I'm not saying we should put all of our efforts into that and ignore signing quality players as we won't get anywhere, a good youth system is important though as the more quality youngsters we can bring through the less first team positions we'll need to buy for, meaning we can afford to spend what money we have got on those positions rather than have to spend less on more players. Look at Man Utd for example, when was the last time they had to spend big money on a right back? Or on a left or right wing? Or even in the middle? They didn't have to for years because they either brought through great youngsters or went out and bought a quality young midfielder like Roy Keane, Veron was the only big money buy in any of those positions and he didn't really work out. After having 10 years out of these players Fergie is looking to do the same again, Beckham left so they bought Ronaldo who was 17 iirc, they've also bought Nani and Anderson as replacements for Giggs and Scholes, in an ideal world Fergie would have these players at Man Utd for another 10 years and if they develop properly then it's less positions he has to fill, meaning he can go out and spend all of his Summer kitty on one player if he wants because he doesn't have to worry about filling the midfield or anything like that. What you don't understand is the difference between a club having a policy and a manager showing good judgement of footballers. The vast majority of ManU's team cost a huge amount of money, the 3 players you mention did well What difference is there between us wanting to sign, Modric, Woodgate and Turan and Gomis and Man U wanting to sign, Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson and Ferdinand? Now Im not comparing them player for player but i fail to see the difference in policy? has to be said ..when was the last time man utd signed a player over 25 (not inc van der sar as keepaers are different)

what...how....whe....eh ? just having a guess, i mean there is no way they are paying an 8 million fee straight up. we might have put in euro performance because obviously if they reach the semi's then it will be largely down to him = value increase which wouldnt be reflected in one off payment. aye righto well i doubt they are going to pay £8m upfront you dipstick. still dont believe the fee quoted though. as i posted when i quoted the fee originally .."surely not" but i find it highly unlikely anything will be built that has anything to do with the turkish national team....in fact it's a bit bonkers.

good if it means they are going about things in the way they got enrique.
-
or oleg luzhny or segei yuran or peter lovenkrandz......all signed and sealed according to the chronic
-
If we were linked with him, then its us and spurs then it's just spurs then really isn't it ?

How do you know he wasn't. Know him do you? I also realise its highly unlikely Emre went for that but it might be higher than you'd expect. From what I've heard we went in for Turan offering Emre + cash. Fener found out and put in a higher offer than Galatasaray valued Emre and he went there. He wasn't even at the club when we sold Dyer He wasn't at tottenham when he got them Ramos either. So let me get this straight, he wasn't at the club yet he got us a better price from West Ham for Dyer? Sure kept luton to under £200,000 for supermac aswell
-
I doubted the need for Jimenez at first but that blokes a genius if the reported fees are true. 9.5M for Emre 5M for Duff 7M for Dyer was he involved in the dyer deal ?

thats bollicks...no-one can turn down spurs

so we cant strengthen the squad in case it upsets 1 player ? What I said was that we have to make sure that we DO strengthen. It's detrimental buying a worse player and giving him the first team slot, especially if the player in possession of the shirt has been playing well which Zog had at the time. at the time i wouldn't have said duff was a worse player. we had n'zogbia mainly left, milner right and little else. then we had the chance to get duff a quality international who can play on both sides. it hasn't worked out but at the time it was a no brainer. just maybe duff got his place due to n'zogbias attitude. such a shame for zog keegan wasn't playing 4-4-2 when he came in, reckon he'd have eventually found some form and confidence now who knows what's going to happen? personally i'd be amazed if keegan let the lad leave without seeing what he can get out of him...where are we going to get a better prospect of a similar age? i personally think the n'zogbia of old would be perfect for the left side in a midfield 3.
