well.........they've got just over 2 days!

with you on that. hoping they picked wise as they see the qualities necessary in him rather than "he's a mate" maybe Wise is just a figurehead overseeing the operation and will help finding more scouts and youth coaches, leaving Vetere to concentrate solely on overseas scouting and Jimenez solely on contracts (replacing russel cushing). also if Wise himself is doing scouting it might be more focused on the domestic game. just a thought. it seems like keegan had to be aware of this plan but it also goes against the keegan way of doing things ie him being the main source of player finding etc

so much wrong in that. if we get a DOF (which hasn't been confirmed thats what wise'll be doing yet)fro a foreign country isn't it likely he'll have knowladge of that country alone as thats what you imply about having an english one ? each club on the continent uses DOF's differently, some have more say than others, some the head coach dictates the purchases at some they don't. the advisors who you don't know how they get where they are, a bit like scouts in that even the best are relativly anonymous. my guess is that someone reckons they have sen something in wise that he can bring here in the same way without having the great reputation someone saw something in wenger when he was merely a coach What's so wrong with what I said? The way I see football people is that everyone knows generally about what is going on at the top level in each country but not too much at other levels of the game. So I imagine that Newcastle will know about most players in the top leagues in Europe but not too much below that. So for example if we got a German DOF then he would have expert knowledge of German football and have a whole set of contacts that could be used to our effect. Contacts that we don't have at the club! Look at Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal. All of them take advantage of the foreign element to their football setup. To be honest there would be nothing wrong at getting a DOF who did not know too much about English football as we should have that well and truly covered! It would also bring in fresh ideas. The thing I have against the advisers is that they have no history of knowing about football. That's why you end up with laughable people like Grant at Chelsea and possibly Redknapp getting the Toon job! At least with scouts a lot of them will have been ex players or have dedicated their lives to football! I cannot believe your comparing Wise to Wenger, yes Wenger had to start somewhere and without knowing his history before Monaco I imagine he would have got where he did through his own brilliance and also hard work. He earned the right to be where he is. I couldn't say that about Wise! realistically those clubs mentioned have a better scouting system and players are prepared to bend over to play for them.thats why they get them from all over, not just the home nation of a member of the backroom staff. advisors....the advisors we are talking about vetere, has been involved in football throughout his life and jiminez was instrumental in getting ramos to spurs. yes i'll compare wise to wenger at the appropriate stage of their careers. what i'm driving at is that sometimes someone sees something (imagine telling people 20 years ago what wenger would go on to do ?) and that job works (think keegan telling you barry venison would play central midfield for england when we just signed him) i'm not sure about bringing wise in only because i don't know what his role is ? i have no idea of his capabilities unlike some on here who really should be running the club.

Not a lot to be honest. I know Arnesen was keen to get him on board when he was at Spurs, went to Real about a year ago. That's about it. I saw someone was wondering about the wisdom of asking Kemsley about Newcastle footballing matters. Nothing to worry about on that score. PK would never stitch up MA, guaranteed. i'm looking through real madrid fans forums to find anyone saying "el fucking hello. ee was at hhhhharlton achleteec so ee musta be sheet. eef ee were not sheet ee wood be at meelan or manhhhester "

you sound like timmy the spoilt kid from viz
-
that bloke is one of ashley's informal "advisors" apparently. used to be a coach at rushden before going on to work at charlton. some say along with Jimenez, he is behind bringing Wise to the club and some journalist on a blackburn forum thinks they are having some sort of input into scouting and transfers. God help us. What do you reckon is actually going on? he was also a scout at real madrid
-
Wasn't Mort recently quoted (a few weeks back) as saying he wants to spend as money comes in? probably...d'you expect him to say we are going on an unprecedented spending spree so everyone jack your prices up like when chelsea come a calling.

Rather that than keep the manager and f**k up the next few seasons. Mick it was clear from the fallout they never took to SA and MA for some time wasn't happy with the football being offerred. Why not sack him earlier or wait till the summer? Don't come at me with your ridiculous melodrama my point has plenty of merit. earlier would never have been early enough. all they could have done would be to get rid a week or two earlier which would have been neither here nor there. to sack him in the summer could have seen us relegated and the most vicious home crowds since i've been going. there was never going to be a "right time"
-
exactly how i sees it

Was just an example, but tbh, if he hasn't seen him play then he has no business in managing a premiership football club. I'm sure he knows who he is, he just doesn't want to take a chance, i think we should, it can't harm us much. Have a word man. If KK hasn't even requested a video of him then he's not the man for the job. We need attacking players, KK wants attacking football, he's one player everyone knows is available, if he hasn't watched him since become NUFC boss then he wants a kick up the arse. Requested a video of him? How does "everyone" know he's available? I've got news for you: not everyone frequents internet forums where people pretend to be experts about players from all over the world. 99% of Newcastle fans won't have ever heard his name. Keegan's been in the job a week and he's supposed to know enough to be prepared to spunk £10m or whatever on a Russian based on nowt but a video and the Sky Sports website bullshit mill? Seriously, has everyone on this forum lost their mind? Wow more than one line in a post from Wullie, have an aspirin and lie down it must of hurt. The lad himself has said he wants to 'move to England' so that's the player covered. His chairman has said he wants him to stay but cannot stop him and have actually 'handed over power of attorney so that we can let an English agency do the serious negotiations' These are actual quotes not s*** made up btw, so the player is available, so get off your fuking high horse. One line? What on Earth are you gibbering about now? So KK should sign him because he's available? Glad we've cleared that up. Maybe we should get Luque back for another £10m, he's probably available too. Yes that's exactly what i said. There are plenty of players out there, like i said before we've played it too safe and ended up with nothing. I think something is better than nothing, stop gaps, loans, right now we need all the help we can get. You don't have to buy a player for life either, they can be moved on when they've done their required job. We've got the money to take a chance, we should of done that this window. I personally now hope the Barnes deal has more substance than usual, if we manage to bring him in i'd be delighted, another player with talent and available at the right price. That's assuming KK has seen the player play and rates him of course. and assuming the barnes story and price are true and not just the usual tabloidish tattle
-
anyway....i'm expecting a splurge in the summer of at least £50mill but not mega-ly exciting as some of them will turn out to be flops and some i'll never have heard of. still,it'll be fun

must've been promised a quite powerful role as i couldn't see him leave leeds just to join the backroom staff.
-
allardyce ticks nearly all the boxes there
-
unlikely to come true. my guess is nicky butt wont start another cup tie for us
-
take his name out of it and just look at what he's done and most would be quite happy to have him in the set up. it's the "wise factor" that will piss some off.
-
just a word for those too young to remember keegan first time round as manager....he gives nowt away !. the first we'll know of a signing is generally when the ink is already dry on his signature. even in woogates case the bid went in,was accepted and talks held without any outsie knowladge. we'll have to get used t the idea that just because we don't get 3 weeks worth of rumours in the rags things may well be happening.
-
If he is holding back then Keegan won't stick around that long. so you are speculating on what Keegan might do, based on the speculation of what Mort might have done? Hypothetically speaking of course. If the Chairman is not doing his upmost to get the players in the Manager wants then would the Manager stick around? Quite an easy equation to make really. any evidence of this happening ? the story i've been told is that the players they want aren't going to be available till the summer and they are loathe to buy in players now on the grounds they are better than what we have but will be surplus in 6 months time

Pienaar, Faye and Beye coming back then. Smiles all round. quite possiblt martins aswell
-
If he is holding back then Keegan won't stick around that long. I reckon thats what happend with the Woodgate deal, the fee Mort would pay, it was th wages he would'nt pay. woodgate might not be the best example on which to judge mort...if he's half an ounce of sense he'd have insisted on something in the contract re: injuries and maybe pay as you play to a degree, or compensation, that sort of thing presumably woodgate baulked at it? the next target will be the one to judge probably.... Oh aye mate, only time will tell, but time in this window is runnign out, so maybe we won't really know until the start of next season.. f*** him and just go for Van Buyten much better tan woodgate at the moment van buyten isn't getting a regular game at bayern and is nearing 30. if money is no object there are plenty better

bit in bold is about NUFC There are so many foreign footballers who come to England, bank their cheques and then complain about how boozy everyone is, or how ugly the girls are, that it can be a shock to meet a player who loves the way of life so much that he intends to stay when he ends his career. What the French will make of Antoine Sibierski quoting Eric Cantona - "I have only one regret and it's that I was not born in England" - is another matter but, from an English perspective, it makes a nice change to hear someone who doesn't think that the weather is too cold or that the food is awful. Article continues "I will not be going back to France when I finish playing," Sibierski says. "It is a lovely country but the people there are arrogant and I don't like their attitude to life. I know a lot of English people will be surprised I am saying this because they go to France on holiday and think it is a lovely place. But I always say, 'You live there for one or two years rather than one or two weeks and then you will understand. All you see are the best bits, but wait for the people to show their real character.' "The truth is that people in France resent success. If they see someone making money they cannot accept it. They are never happy to see someone doing well. So they will be nasty and say bad things behind your back because, basically, they are jealous. "In England if you make money the people here generally accept that you have worked hard and deserve it. But in France I have seen what can happen if you are successful. When I lived there, my car windows were smashed. Another time someone ran a key along the side to scratch the paintwork. These are just two examples. I'm not saying it could never happen in England and that everyone here is perfect but I enjoy my life here more than in France. I like the people more. And my wife, Isabelle, feels exactly the same. The people here like her because of who she is, not because she's a footballer's wife." There is something Cantona-esque about the way Siberski speaks his mind. True, the 33-year-old from Lille has not had the same impact on English football as Manchester United's rouge diable, but Wigan Athletic's nomadic striker is engaging company as he reflects on his 4½ years in the Premier League and the differences with Le Championnat. "It's very simple," he explains. "In England the football is exciting, in France it is boring. I watch it on television when I go home and I switch off." He is talking in a closed-off room at Wigan's training ground, freshly showered after a final training session to prepare for today's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Chelsea. He had the choice of Wigan or Bolton Wanderers when he decided to leave Newcastle United last summer and applied an eccentric kind of logic. "When I looked at the two squads I could see Bolton were much stronger," he recalls. "They were in Europe as well, but I didn't want the easy choice. I wanted that challenge of playing for a club where it would not be easy." It has certainly been a difficult season at the JJB stadium, although Sibierski is full of praise for the way Steve Bruce has rejuvenated the club since taking over from Chris Hutchings. "We had lost our confidence before he arrived. We had lost our discipline, on and off the pitch, but we're playing like a team now that should be in the top 10." His return to the north-west has allowed him to return to his "favourite part of England", where his family are happily settled in Hale Barns, a Cheshire-set village inhabited by a Who's Who of Premier League footballers and Mancs-done-good. Yet there are glimpses of regret too - and the chain of events leading to his transfer explains why he refers to the former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd only as "Shepherd". It did not end well at Newcastle," he explains. "I wanted to play there for the rest of my career and in February I was told that I would be offered a new contract for two years on the same wages. I was waiting and waiting and then, three games before the end of the season, Shepherd sacked Glenn Roeder. Suddenly my contract had been changed to one year, with 40% of the wages guaranteed and the other 60% if I played. I could understand if I had been injured or basically crap but I had played well and didn't deserve that. It was a complete lack of respect and I'm disappointed about it to this day because I still love that club and I class myself as a Newcastle fan. "I'm very happy that Shepherd has gone, even if it came too late for me. I don't know him as a man so I can't judge him as a man, but as a chairman he was not a good chairman. The players did not like him. It's a shame for me because I still look for their results, and when my baby boy, Alessandro, is old enough to watch football I will take him to St James' Park. But the fact is I couldn't let them show me that disrespect." Sibierski is well qualified to talk about the Kevin Keegan factor at Newcastle. "He was my first manager at Manchester City and I loved working with him. He is a legend at Newcastle and, now Shepherd has gone, if they buy the right players they can challenge Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in two years." His face changes, however, when Stuart Pearce, Keegan's successor at City, is mentioned. "He liked me at first and gave me an extension to my contract. Then I had a really bad game against Middlesbrough at home. I was getting booed by the fans. We lost 1-0. And he was never the same with me again. I hadn't played in central midfield for two years but Kiki Musampa had turned up for training an hour late so Pearce put him on the bench. Something broke in our relationship that day." It degenerated to the point that there was no handshake between the pair when Sibierski left for Newcastle in 2006. "We played a pre-season game in China and he used me in four different positions - right-wing, left-wing, central midfield and finally as a striker. He had no trust in me so I knew I had to leave." The sight of Marlon King looking round Wigan's training ground yesterday suggests Sibierski may still have to win over Bruce. But he says he has enjoyed his first six months at Wigan and has a good understanding with the new manager. When he was dropped for the recent game at Derby he came off the bench to score the winner. "I have qualities," he says. "Please don't think I love myself. I'm realistic." He has been flattered, too, that some of the younger players at Wigan have turned to him for advice. "I don't want to be a coach or a manager, but maybe I should stay in the game to manage a few players and help their careers." Whatever happens, he will be staying in England. "When I first heard that Cantona quote I didn't understand it. But I do now. I'm proud of where I'm from. Cantona is as well. But we have the same views about France."
