I wonder if leaving home was a problem? I know Shearer flourished but not everybody is the same and what makes some people can break others. A different choice may have gave him a different career. possibly. I put some of it down to his always playing against his peers, I was probabaly as old as he played against (a year or two older than him) so he didn't really get anything really to fear physically. he didn't really play much non-organised football to sort of toughen him up. at 14 we were playing against 20yr olds who'd spent the afternoon in the club, he was playing against other 14 or 15 yr olds in organised games. I was in the a wing paddock quite close to the pitch when he played for pompey, i was shouting at ray ranson "kick him, kick him, he doesn't like getting kicked", a couple of minutes later ranson took the ball but took shaun out with the follow through, couldn't help but shout "sorry shaun" as he slowly got up. neither probably heard me but it made me feel like I had had an effect.

Didn't he score a hat-trick for England Schoolboys at Wembley ? I seem to remember it was on TV for some reason. don't know if it was a hat trick but he did get one from about 25-30yds. back then end of season under 16/schoolboy internationals were regularly on the tele.

The Chronicle massively hyped Murray who couldn't live up to expectations and was eventually a nobody in comparison. he was great in amongst his peers, when it came to getting kicked off blokes and he was still just a lad (like we were brought up, he'd been shielded from it) it seemed like he couldn't take it.

played a bit in kids knock about games with shaun murray (once just about the most sought after schoolboy footballer in the country), went to spurs straight from school, then to pompey, for whom he played at SJP, then drifted to scarbrough, blackpool, notts county I think, real nice lad. chris basham when he was about 14 or 15 for his dads works team, he was probably the best on the pitch even at that age.

Did Sir John Hall make a racist joke about Les Ferdinand ages ago?

which they are, what else did you think I meant ? -

would he have said he didn't see shearer as he was stood next to the fridge ? -
pretty much my thinking on it.

you drink from the cup of mediocrity whilst awaiting the chance to quench yourself from the chalice of glory.

same for any dead ball, the person taking it can't touch it again till someone else has, free kicks, corners, throw ins, even kick offs (at which the ball also has to move at least it's own circumference before someone else touches it, or so it used to be)

I wonder if anita would've got the nod over tiote had saturdays game been at home ?

To the tune of "Noel, noel, born is the king of Israel", I forlornly attempted to get the hordes to sing, "Ruel, Ruel, Ruel, Ruel. Keegan's the King of Newcastle!" at Ruel's debut at Selhurst Park circa '94. I wasn't 12 though, I was nigh on 26. I was there that day. Was only 7, so only remember the result (4-2) and the fact I was introduced to a laundry list of new profanity, most of which was directed at Mike Hooper. He was s**** that day mind. I remember Warren Barton playing well for them. And Peter f***ing Fear. I too were there. didn't gary blissett bully us to bits ?

not too keen on the idea myself, we hate chelsea and citeh for being a rich mans plaything and earning f*** all so can't say I'd be happy if we done exactly that. Wrong - we DON'T hate Chelsea and Spurs because they are rich men's playthings...we hate them because we are not in the same league but have bigger crowds. I couldn't give a toss how we get success as long as we get it and you are forgetting that in the 90s WE were the ones doing the spending with SJH and KK - remember Shearer etc ? speak for yourself, I don't hate spurs, as far as I'm aware their spending is based on what they've earned and their own risk (debt), like we did, SJH didn't give a hand out, a hand in if anything as he was a taker out of cash unlike abramovic.meanwhile many complain that that sort of thing is killing the game. so what about ashleys gambling, it's his money, why don't you put more of your money into the club ? Are you feeling OK..?? That last sentence was possibly one of the silliest I have seen on here....has it occurred to you that I actually don't OWN the club or have a couple of billion pounds ? Your beloved Mike does.... For your information, I spent a great deal of my own time running around(petrol at my cost and no fee involved)buying up shares during the Magpie Group campaign so we could have a better football club - which we got. I bought STs and shares in the club too. so I put my money where my mouth was. As for your comment about SJH, if he hadn't rescued the club in 1992, there would have been NO KK, NO New Stadium and maybe a club like Sheff Weds. What have YOU done for NUFC apart from be a Soopafan ? that sentence was silly and delibertely so, it was to play on the silliness of you stamping your foot, pouting your bottom lip and folding your arms like an 8yr old in a huff because the nasty man didn't do what you wanted him to with his own money. the bit re john hall is that he didn't really put any money in when we were spending, the club used it's incomings and debt. as far as I remember lady hall put up £250,000 in the early days to buy brian kilcline and that was it. as regards what do I do, I buy my season ticket and thats it, don't buy strips or other mechandise and if I had ashley's money the last thing I'd do is buy a football club.

Very much so. Anyone know what his goal record was for Freiberg prior to the New Year? Is it a case where he comes on stronger as season progresses? he'd scored 9.

we are basically where I started with Newcastle in the early to mid 70's, a team that could be as good one week as they could be bad the week after and disenchantment with the board. could even put ben arfa in the jimmy smith role as inconsistent sometime genius.

Aren't we already a rich mans plaything, just that ours spends f*** all on us. well I suppose he has spent over 100mill on us but that was clearing the bank debt (and I have no doubt he'll get that back one way or another). you surely don't need it spelling out the difference between say, abramovic and ashley ? Nope, i thought was pretty clear in the point i made in my previous post. must've misunderstood it. I don't see is as a play thing for ashley, we are very much a business, as opposed to abramovic and chelsea. Ah i see what you mean. I think Ashley did indeed buy us as a plaything, it went tits up with the bad decisions he's made and now he treats us just like any other of his businesses. Not losing money as the aim in the short term (and to get his loan back in the long term, which was his own fault for not doing the due diligence). We suffer because he f***ed up multiple times, rather annoying to say the least. we'd have suffered either way as no one who done due dilligence would've bought us (see belgravia and polygon). I don't think he bought us as a plaything, for me his plan was to invest a little in order to sell later and make a profit while also getting exposure for his other companies. he had to onvest more than he wanted after the purchase and he's running it to a business plan. we couldn't be much more different to chelsea.

i'll serve 'em up dave, you volley 'em home.

always seems to be in groups of 6 games aswell. is this the standard counting system in Sunderland ?

Aye....then divide it by 4 and you'll be even nearer! I like the remove TEEN idea as its still so far out, theres no oneteen, or twoteen or even threeteen.

the second one when watching "live" you think he hits it full on but only on a couple of angles do you see he side foots it.

anyone pointed out how important today was given the run of games we have coming, probably our worst run of games in this seasons fixtures ?

in all seriousness they are due a relegation in years that end with a number.
