What should we be blasting Wonga for? Just existing? Erm, yes? They exist and they're s***. They're also sponsoring us. Right, but that's kind of a given. You can't really 'blast' a company for existing. I don't like them, but they aren't breaking any laws and moral judgement on them is subjective at best. We're not likely to force out a sponsor by objecting to it, and I doubt strength of feeling would be strong enough anyway. Nobody should be blasting Cisse either mind. What do you mean you can't blast a company for existing? You sort of can when their entire existence is that they are a f***ing modern day loan shark, but that's besides the point. Instead of directing the focus on Cisse's hypocrisy direct it on what a s*** odious company Wonga are and how his moral or religious beliefs are perfectly reasonable. If anything is going to force some action from either Mike or Wonga it's the latter, a character assassination against Cisse just strengthens their position. if his beliefs are perfectly reasonable surely he'd refuse the barclays logo aswell ? Are you on repeat? sometimes it's necessary.

To be fair it was reported almost from day one that we'd have a problem with the Muslim players over this. Cisse was consistently mentioned. Best I could find on google (from 1/9/2012 to 1/6/2013) was a few articles from the start by local clerics/imams about it, usual daily mail troublemaking although I think there was a telegraph article in there too. Nothing actually from the players themselves. And then radio silence. I reserve the right to be disappointed in him for leaving it to the 11th hour to start this. It was reported properly about Cisse having an issue with it on 11th June. It's now just about the 24th July and precisely nothing has been done about it. It could be described as the 11th hour in terms of the deal being announced last year, but there's much more to say it's just gross incompetence that this hasn't been sorted yet. You know it won't be though f***ing laughable. we know nowt tbh, all we know is the player seemingly refuses to wear the logo, we don't know what or if the club have tried to compromise.

Because ultimately - rightly or wrongly - people will defend the club ahead of any player, despite how previously popular they may be. Even if the club is rotten to the core and run by absolute c***s with no morals. Except its not in the clubs favour if he's hounded out. I quite agree, but it's the same any time a player is looking like they might leave for any reason. They transform into greedy/hypocritical/s*** b******s almost overnight. The club have it so easy it's unreal. imo carroll was greedy, enrique was disingenuous more than hypocritical and for s**** b******s, well, thats maybe a reaction to the overrating that many give our players. edit, i still can't forgive given for his manner of leaving, couldn't blame him for wanting to leave but the way it was engineered was disgraceful.

Maybe next year...... Barclays offer Muslim mortgages, so what ? You can't say that's ok in light of everything else. Like saying the Animal liberation front would like me as I like salad now and again.
-
For polic, Barclays deliberate misselling, libor fixing, charging £25 for going £1 overdrawn, caught avoiding tax thats just off the top of my head, probably more.
-
If his one objection is excessive rates someone ought to inform him of Barclays practises and the effects they've had, makes wonga small beer in comparison. Then again that would count him put of many moves wouldn't it.
-
San toon, while I get your point, in my eyes he's kicking off with the KFC top but ok with the McDonalds logo. Doesn't make sense unless there's an n'zogbiaesque ulterior motive.
-
Any players moral compass should have been pointing rigidly north with Barclays, but no, Fuck all said.
-
Were Wonga in a position to fix LIBOR? Were Wonga in a position to lie about it's insurance products? I've just checked Barclays and Wonga to see what they are charging for loans. At Barclays it costs you £102.42 to borrow £1000 for a year, at Wonga it costs you £127.15 to borrow £400 for 30 days. If you're going to compare companies to Wonga it might be better if you compare them like for like instead of praising one for not doing something it wasn't capable of doing. at barclays I think it also costs you £22 to go £1 overdrawn for 1 day. like i said, hes comlaining about something relatively minor when he is quite happy to wear a logo for something much worse. I wonder what Islam has to say on lying for financial gain and tax avoidance on top of usury ?
-
no, did wonga fix the libor rates and lie about its insurances products, I know which has robbed more and created most pain for the country.
-
i'm not necessarily against that but would it lead to others doing the same thing and in the end the sponsors not bothering (not too bad a thing) or paying the players directly to "persuade" them which means more money leaving the game to the players.
-
many are confused as to his principles though. high rates of interest to people who can't afford it=bad, deliberate mis selling of products, fixing LIBOR, tax avoidance , playing a large role in bringing the country to its knees, charging £25 in "fees" for going £1 overdrawn= not really worth saying anything about as it means he wouldn't be really able to play in any league that has a tie in with a major bank without looking a complete hypocrate. if anyone wants to complain/protest/take a principled stand then get their priorities in order ffs instead of pointing out theres a 2inch crack in the plaster when in reality the sodding walls have fallen down.

barclays are scum also, he's objecting to only one, why ? I guess cause he doesn't have to wear it on his chest. does it make a difference that it's on his arm ? I can't read his mind bro but I'm not going to criticise him for making a stand. Not enough people make stands these days is why society has gone to f***. like i said eariler though, you have to be consistent.

Makes me laugh how people are able to pick and choose what elements of religion they like but they still hold the high groung in your eyes. Isn't being religious, almost by definition, in a society likes ours today a matter of picking and choosing, though? That's largely how, if you take away the influence of insane fundamentalists - of every religion - religions survive? to a point, the problem being if you pick and choose you have to be consistent with what you choose. Quite right. I chose to ignore all of it. *drinks booze, gambles, lends money, eats pork, beef, draws cartoon of Allah* Oooh I'd like to see that. (madras in get rid of non-nufcers off the board attempt) (only kidding brummie )

allowed ? after ba left it seemed we didn't have anyone bar cisse who had it in their game, see why sissoko was pushed forward. it's not ben arfa's game to get in the box, nor cabaye's or jonas, gouffran always got ther late but, if you think the they were told "don't go in the box" then thats up to you.

The thing was though, we had a good first 11 out for nearly all of last season certainly compared to the teams around us, but the tactics and set piece routines counteracted it. We do have good players, but ive no confidence in the manager, and tbh, the coaches, getting the best out of them. Agree, I'm afraid... Cabaye, Ba,Cisse, Tiote and the rest worked well together - but now that AP got the time to have an influence he spoils it! We'd ve better of letting everyone (not Tiote) act on instinct! NO manager at all, and let some Random Dude pick the team... Granted, last night was the first friendly, but the set pieces were the same. Vuckic took free kick on half way line, everyone up, and floated straight to the keeper. We should be working on new set piece routines. tbf the majority of free kicks from about 40yds are like that from most clubs. didn't realise so much till around christmas time when so much was made of it on here then took more notice of other clubs. most clubs if it outside shooting distance is a pretty aimless lump to the back of the box, only arsenal not really doing it most of the time. Depends on your definition of lump. Any sort of crossed ball could be classed as so but a floated cross a la NUFC is nowhere near as threatening as a whipped cross or flatter cross. we've definitely been found wanting from wider positions but from deeper we are as bereft of ideas as everyone else. (ie not many teams whip crosses in from near the half way line but they do, we don't from 20yds out on the touch line)

it would be if they made a point of protesting about the sponsorship by a child kiilling company while not being bothered about another one because they killed fewer children directly.

Was thinking this earlier, not exactly a great start to the trip all this. just standard nufc pre season.
