Newcastle vs. Doncaster - Pre-match Thread - 24/10/09 - K/O @ 15:00

I thought that was KK in the pic for a second. -
I would be very much against it, once it happens what next? Lyon, Marseille, Ajax? I think I did hear yesterday though that Celtic would be prepared to start in League 2 (Div 4). If they were going to do that then I would be slightly more in favour, although not much.

What's that award? It looks like a baby's bottle.

He has a column in the Irish Sun along with O'Dreary.

Keegan vs Ashley and Co case settled - KK awarded 2m

I have only read it the once, at lunchtime, but am I correct in thinking that who pays costs is yet to be decided? -
Niall Hickman (Daily Mail) has just been on Talksport and says if Moat comes in, and he feels that is my no means certain, then he will try and bring Keegan back. Where has he got this from? Is he just mixing him with Shearer?

Keegan vs Ashley and Co case settled - KK awarded 2m

I think the only 'dodgy' thing about the deal is the fact that any club could be stupid enough to spend that much money in wages etc for simply to get in the agents good books, and then to admit it all! -
Talksport just came out of a news bulletin with the Charles and Eddy track 'Would I Lie To You'. I was hoping they were going to be talking about the fact they have admitted lieing to fans and the press but it turns our they are just talking about Ricky Gervais' new film!

I am looking foward to Caulkin's article on this. No doubt the majority of the press will ignore the majority of the findings.

First, he told us, and we accept, that he wanted to stay at the Club. Secondly, there were very good reasons for him to want to do so. He had a valuable Contract worth £3m for the first year, £3.2m for year two and £3.4m for year three, plus benefits and he was managing a Club about which he clearly felt passionately and whose fans supported him no less passionately. Thirdly, the Club had had an encouraging start to the new season: in the Premiership, they had drawn away to Manchester United and then won at home to Bolton and in the Carling Cup they had since won away at Coventry. True it is that they had just lost away at Arsenal but that cannot have come as any great surprise. And the atmosphere in the dressing room was described as excellent. Finally, as we set out in more detail below, he was being told by the Club that they wanted him to stay. Must have put on a pretty compelling "show" if, as you suggest he is conning everyone! Very Yoda.

So he says the £4m offer was never made, what he doesnt say is whether or not he would have accepted it if it had been made. I would have thought that given the small print in his contract he would have taken it. -

From reading it through, Mort seems to have been pretty much on Keegan's side in the tribunal. -
Why? This is exactly the kind of expected verdict on Ashley and co's actions. Why? Er, because the judgement completely vindicates Keegan. not totally, as keegan would of got his 9m if he did If you read the whole judgement, it's clear the size of his pay-out was dictated by the smallest of small print in his contract and so is more or less irrelevant next to the fact that his complaint was upheld and the club have been ridiculed by the arbitration panel. I agree, for those that have not read the pdf (and for what its worth, I found it very easy to read, and not at all in 'lawyer speak') it seems clear to me that the tribunal found fully in Keegans favour, but that his contract had the small print indicating that if it ended, any compensation was limited to £2m. So basically they awarded him the maximum possible. Having read through it one thing is certain to me. It is now imperative that Ashley, Llambias and their like are all out of the club for good as soon as possible.

Now that it is decided will Keegan be allowed to speak about it?

I think Zurab has don enough to keep his place whether Simpson is fit or not. Ideally I'd bring Guthrie back for Butt, but I wouldnt mind too much if we were unchanged. -

he cannot run at players, how many times do we have to go through this? To be fair, I would have a go running at these defenders myself! -

Where is Lovenkrands playing? He had an oppurtunity here to stake a claim by running at them and I haven't seen him once. -

I don't think the injuries look as serious as the BBC would like, just sensible precautions at 4-0 up. -
