  1. Aaron Spear? No we were in for him as well.

  3. Officially left, guess he's known for some time he's leaving and its only come out due to the approach to the FA to see if he's in the right and can do so. We could have been in talks for a bit and already sold the club too him. Meanwhile back in the land of the living... Him officially leaving might alert other clubs. He (or rather his agent) would be stupid to accept an offer so soon without seeing if he can drum up some more interest. By interest I mean money. Who knows we could have offered a very good deal, with him being injured till November its going to hold him back slightly, especially for medicals and clubs may not want to cough up a large signing on fee, we might be willing to take a chance. Ashley is if anything a chancer.

why ? right now i'd make forster no.2 to harper. Going to learn loads sitting on the bench. learnt enough last season to have him at the ready. Imagine what another season would do...at a higher level. imagine if harper got injured/sent off and we had forster to come in ? We could call him back next game. In the meantime we have Krul. A season playing football compared to a season not playing football. No contest which is better for any player. surely we need to keep one and krul is the one needing games. Get both of them out on loan and bring in a free or own loan, a more experienced keeper who won't mind playing second fiddle to Harper. Isn't going to happen, especially now with Forsters prime destination sorted with a keeper. Let's hope we don't have 3 keepers on the books fighting for No1 spot because only Harper will ever get a chance unless injured and a season passes both these two promising keepers. It would be a shame for either or both spending this season on the bench, i'd do everything to make sure that doesn't happen for either.

Stupid move by us, yet again. (unless Harper is leaving or we've lined up a move for Krul)
  10. Given's kicking improved most under Souness I think, whoever it was got him to start kicking with his head down, it was so over forced the head movement i used to think WTF? It certainly helped, not sure if he still does it today or not.
  11. I wouldn't fancy paying big money for McFadden, by that I mean owt over £3m. Think he could be a decent signing though, but I'd rather have someone a bit more comfortable on their/the right.
  12. The pricks ruined every South American he's bought. Yup, you can see he doesn't quite trust them as much. Regarding Forlan the typically clueless English media were very quick to make him out to be an absolute joke and labelled him a bust and I'm sure that didn't help things. For a striker not scoring for his 1st 23 games i think it was fair enough. Hindsight is wonderful. I hear what you're saying, but he clearly wasn't playing consistently for the full 90 mins or anything. I just think there is a terrible habit in this country of writing off foreign players so quickly, and more disturbingly managers tend to buy into it and allow this to affect their judgement. If it was left to Andy Gray Drogba would have been sold after his first month at Chelsea! To hear him now wax lyrical about the man just makes me sick. Complete retard Andy Gray. That he is. Forlan to be fair had his chances and didn't take them. Actually Gray was very supportive of him and I remember him doing his little positioning thing after games stating it was only time until he scored, along with Fergie never buys a bad player etc... He also supported Veron, well anything Manu tbh.

For a striker not scoring for his 1st 23 games i think it was fair enough. Hindsight is wonderful. True, but he was getting in the positions to score which is generally the sign of a good player. On a seperate note didn't he almost join the Boro instead on Man Utd? He flew in to sign for Boro and Manu reps hijacked him in the airport cafe. There was a lot of pressure on him, and it kept on him due to him not scoring, but even he'd admit it he missed 10's of sitters he'd now put in in his sleep. Manu move was one move to quick, should have went to Boro then to Manu and they'd have the Forlan we see today.

I think we've had respectable youth coaches over Ashley's reign, just no real setup and structure. The coaches have been capable, we've had some good results at youth level, though the way in which we deal with them when they get to a certain age is wrong. There is no real planning, just hope one of them brings himself through leaning on natural ability only. It's like loaning them out is an afterthought while something we don't like doing. Imo it should all be about identifying young talent, mature them as young adults, train them hard and get them up to speed in youth and then reserve games. When this is done farm them out and have lower leagues invited to come and loan all of our prospects in return of first team football. Get them back in and see how close they are to the first team, if the need more games back out on loan. At this stage they either make it or they don't and they are sold on with addons, just like how Manu do it. They've not really produced any stand out candidates for their standards, but constantly churn out average Championship standard players sold on for a million or so keeping funds in the academy and also young careers knowing if they don't make it at Manu then there's a good chance someone else will have them and their experiences will stand them in good stead. We just release once we realise they've not been good enough, and that's usually because they get to 21 with only a handful of professional games under their belt, with their biggest development stage over. This is just the business end of the academy that isn't working, god knows what's going on right from the bottom of age 10 etc...but again, it seems there's no real structure. Chopping and changing coaches isn't helping either for one reason or another.
  16. I like the white polo Perch is parading in today. Though they really couldn't fuk that one up massively. Might get something like that; i've got a few of their polo's, quite like em.

Too early to give up on either, Ranger needs a loan and a run of games to see what he's capable of. Same old problem with Newcastle though isn't it, not playing their youngsters and not loaning them out therefore stopping their careers until they move on. It's all good signing these prospects but if you don't use them correctly they wither away and lose years and the promise they once had and why regular players with less skills catch up. Kadar had a few opportunities and took them imo, looks certain to be Premiership quality, though sitting on the bench and getting a couple of starts in league cup games is going to undo all the hard work. He's already had a big injury setback, lets not ruin him by keeping him on the bench and refusing to loan him out because were too tight to buy backup players to fill in until Kadar and the likes are ready. Forster, Krul, Kadar, Ranger, LuaLua, Tozer and possibly Vuckic all need loaning out preferably all to the Championship or higher league one, imagine that lot all with 30-40 games at that level behind them?

Reminds me of the time we signed Routledge.
  19. I completely agree with you. Taylor is clearly going to be a prat about this new contract, and it isn't worth the hassle. Besides I honestly rate Davies and Onuoha as at least being as good as Taylor. Williamson is also just as good a player. Don't think we need to go all otu to resign Taylor at all. Expendable imo. Never fancied Onuoha in a central role, his pace is handy but he's a bit short. Davies on the other hand is a much more intelligent player than Taylor and has a good frame to work off.
