I'd hasten a guess that Rafa thought he had a greater budget left than he actually had as Murphy was fairly early in the window from memory. I think the mistake last time was investing heavily in young foreign (new league, life, language) players who simply didn't want to be here. Murphy is the total opposite apart from age.

Stoke certainly have it in them to bring us crashing back down to earth but equally we have it in us to find another win. Its nice to feel optimistic, I'll stick with it for now.

We can't even enjoy winning Fucking Ashley. Shite window aside I'm looking forward to seeing him getting the best out of what he's got. It's going to be organised, well drilled, hard working and practical, but it will help a few of our players grow in to the premiership and kickstart their careers at this level. If we can prove we have turned the corner come January, players who were out of our reach may give us a second glance and we get the chance to build on what we've got. You never know, we may do enough to convince him to stay beyond the season.

He'll be alright, and good competition for the team. Some players start on fire and settle in right away, others take time. Lets not write off Manquillo or Murphy because Joselu & Merino have come flying out the blocks. Same goes for Hayden & Lacelles, both have a lot to prove at this level and it will take time with so many questionable talents in the team (you could also question Perez, Shelvey & Gayle) but it looks like we've got the base of a decent young team, we just needed one or two key signings to really spark it in to life. TBH i'm half expecting Yedlin to come back in and be off the pace and out of form, or simply just not as good as his Championship season due to opposition. He too will have some proving to do....seems to be the theme of the team, but better that than some of the known shite we've endured in this era.
