Anyway, aye, the benchmark's been fully nailed to the mast, he knows where the gauntlet stands now, that's for sure.

If I knew you were gonna start cutting yourself I wouldn't have mentioned it.

You didn't have to explain it, man.

How do you set a gauntlet?

  7. you don't think he put barton in the middle as he saw a choice between that and routledge outside as being better than barton wide right and guthrie in the middle ? The choice was playing two strikers or not. He chose not to, as he had done against City. honestly think was down to the opposition and playing away, expect to see 4-4-2 return against wigan. (if we can call nolan up front a 2 man forward line) If Nolan's up front and we play 4-4-2 then that puts Barton in the middle again. or if ranger plays. i'd much rather barton in the middle and routledge plays than putting guthrie or smith in to keep barton wide. What's wrong with Nolan in the middle? It's in the middle he's fattest.

I suspect, like maddy, there's not much in it, tbh. Sometimes, I think we look worse/more ragged with Taylor simply because of his 'whole-hearted' approach. He and Williamson are probably equally average but Taylor is more flamboyantly average. The thing that works in the Willicini combo's favour is they've played a good few games together and looked settled.

People are relating to Hughton to some of his better results in the thread i.e. Everton and Arsenal away but completely forget we had some shocking performances at Bolton and West Brom. Any1 saying Hughton would of done better is being completely prejudice. wrong. hughton would have played his best team, i.e. williamson instead of taylor and barton on the right. you lot that are already making excuses for pardew are going to look pretty fucking stupid doing it every week. Whereas you think a new manager should come in and do exactly the same as what got his predecessor sacked.

Maybe he sees potential in Taylor that Williamson doesn't have? Who fucking knows.

Aye, maybe Pardew favours the demonstrative, hand-waving sort of defender to one who stays on his feet and doesn't act like a heroic mime artist.

Makes sense, I suppose. He was put in a difficult position in a way. He would've looked a tit if he'd let Taylor go without knowing much about him, but giving him a contract that (you'd think) identifies him (by wage) as a first-choice CB he's painted himself into a corner.

Doubt it, like. If so he's even stupider than I thought. I would have thought a mixture of that, and this: Well, it's more likely he's been undermined from above than he undermined himself. It'd be impressively thick to basically bow in to player power and hand your authority away in the space of a couple of weeks.

Sounds like an average night out on the Toon for Jon, tbh.

Agree. Hughton played him because he was Hughton's buy (not saying he's a poor player, btw), but Pardew has no reason to pick him ahead of the more established Taylor. Obviously no idea how he's performing in training, but you'd think he'd have to work hard to break up what is becoming a settled CB partnership.
  18. They're balls. The worst thing they did was bring in a catenaccio-style manager. Grinding out results is nee way to make friends when you're sitting on piles of cash. It's like that bloke in the pub who every knows is loaded but never buys a round and counts his pennies out on the bar.
