Never have been never will be. In national/European/global terms we're on a different level to them.

Though macums are undoubtedly detestable, I actually feel sympathy for them having to watch the dross O'Niell is serving up week after week. They're embarrassingly bad. If they can't beat us at home playing against 10 men for 70 minutes and with the most biased of referees giving them absolutely everything they may as well pack in trying.
-
What a horrible team they are, horrible club, horrible place. Thery are so bad when you actually have to watch them, O'Niel is bankrupting them and taking them backwards at the same time. No wonder their fans are deserting them and they even have to offer free tickets for the derby match now. That was the worst, most cowardly and biased to the home side refereeing performance I've ever seen. Well done Pardew and the team, really good performance under the most difficult of circumstances. P.S. Ginger Jack needs a smack.

That horrible incident where the spectator attacked the goalkeeper last night makes you wonder if it would have happened had the FA or Sunderland FC taken strong action when one of their fans attacked Steve Harper a couple of years ago. Talk about turning a blind eye - wouldn't be surprised if the kid is back in the crowd tomorrow. Spectators running on to the pitch at Sunderland has become a routine thing and now Leeds fans have done the same. Any incidents tomorrow need to be dealt with severely by the FA to stop it once and for all. A points deduction may finally get the message across. -

Perchie to rattle in the winner down at the Tullow Tip would be just perfecto. -
Does the scruffy tramp O'Neill want us to applaud Anton Ferdinand as well ? Anyway how about some actions from the man himself, a clear statement about sectarianism in football would be a good start Marty.

I don't think that ours is any fiercer than Forest/Derby, Southamton/Pompey, Sheff Utd/Wednesday or many others really. What I don't think any other derby has is a set of fans who have such a huge chip on their shoulder about their rivals' city and club as the one Sunderland supporters carry. This leads to their irrational rabid behaviour, regular pitch invasions etc which probably make this derby seem fiercer than it really is tbh. -
That article helps explain why so many decent knowledgable supporters have stopped going to Sunderland matches and why they have to drag in 12,000 plastic fans to fill their stadium once a year when we are the visitors.

I think it's the same for most real fans. I'm not saying that real fans can't enjoy the derbies it's just that most don't. It's probably worse for us being the bigger club with better players we're almost expected to win and usually do.We have had so many great days at their expense recently (5-1,1-4, Dabizas, Shola etc etc etc) that victory is just treat as another good result. For them with their embarrassing recent record in derbies and 15 point seasons etc, and pitifully having to cling on to victories from 100 years ago before the offside rule existed, victory will be seen like the dawn of a new era and celebrated for decades to come. Whereas for us full houses are the norm, for them 12,000 extra fans (a third more than a normal attendance) will crawl out of the woodwork to see Newcastle and fill their traditionless flat pack stadium for the only time in the year, behaving like rabid dogs should they get any kind of result against their big neighbours. Win, lose or draw I just want this out of the way now and to get on with the rest of the season, Europe etc. -
Taken from the BBC Football look into prices - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19984968 & http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19842397 Sounds like those £9 flights and £15 return London train fares that don't really exist. Anyone ever had this deal?

Bit of a shame that it's the away derby this weekend as we may well have an almost full squad to pick from. That along with being "bedded in" by now would give us a better platform to start playing our stuff. Of course playing a team who will be under instructions to kick us off the park and intimidate the referee at every opportunity will mean it will not be a normal performance on Sunday. I always thought we'd have a stuttering start due to difficult fixtures/Europe/International breaks etc, but that if we're around mid table come November that will be fine and we'll take off from there.

The last three makum players to score in the derby are Darren Bent, Asamoah Gyan and Niklas Bendtner. Does that make them Sunderland legends like Kevin Ball and Charlie Hurley ? -
Does any other club have as many plastic fans ? They get about 36K for an ordinary game then suddenly they have a 49K sellout for their biggest game of the season. That's one third again of their regular support crawls out of the woodwork just to see Newcastle. I don't think any other top flight club has such fickle support.

Yes but the needless words and actions of their club's owner has made an already difficult situation much worse by putting self interest before safety. They should be held accountable for ignoring police advice if there are problems. -
Bit disappointed meself like. St James' is just so yesterday and wongadome seemed so cutting edge.

It's Ryan Giggs - signing in January apparently.

Classy behaviour in that hovel of a town on wearside includes :- Smashing up and openly urinating on local transport services, Running on to the pitch to attack opposition players, Smearing excrement around toilets being used by fellow supporters, Starting internet posts hoping for another team's aeroplane to crash. Yes, truly classy in their bitter jealous world, but just quite sad in the civilised world.

If there are any problems then Sunderland and especially their owner who allegedly instigated the changes should be taken to task for putting self interest before the safety of the general public. Quite disgraceful that they acted against police advice. -
From True Faith's brilliant pre-derby perfect ten series, LET’S ALL LAUGH AT SUNDERLAND Remember Sunderland’s” lads” getting off The Monument and marching en-masse up Blackett St., through Gallowgate, up Barrack Road, dishing out hidings at some indeterminate point in the past? Nah, me neither, because it didn’t happen! Steve Bruce promising us he had something planned for the PA system when Sunderland beat Newcastle in the return fixtures at the SoS following the 5-1 when they would beat us. What was that song Brucie? Lee Cattermole’s forthcoming appearance on Jeremy Kyle Photos of the lad with his Dad who pushed Harper over, the next day in the papers Their fans doing 2-1 gestures with their fingers on Wessington Way after the 4-1 One of their fans, frothing at the mouth, nutting a bus in frustration outside the Half Way House Pub in Southwick after the 4-1 2-1 T-shirts The empty away end at SJP with 20 mins left at the 5-1 Martin O’Neill’s lies about NUFC coaching staff and the officials room at SJP Steve Cram’s Bar Bill after the Dabzias 1-0 ;D ;D

Just another typical bitter macum really. Their jealousy and obsession with us being a big club as opposed to their non-entity status, their hovel of a town in the shadow of a true regional capital and modern European city and watching on as we embark on another European odyssey seems to be driving some of them towards insanity.

Getting late Mick, gonna change it now

So sad that the Guardian has sunk to this level of "news" reporting. If NUST still exists they should maybe run a poll to see what Newcastle fans think of them. My guess is a big majority will know nothing about them and amongst those who do most will think they're a complete waste of time and in no way represent Newcastle fans.
