ewww Was! Will be again when he takes them down! Well, we're about to see whether being a total f*cking loon as a manager has a place in the Premier. Been trying to remember if anyone anywhere near as crackers has managed in the top flight before, but I'm struggling. I guess Holloway and Mourinho were unique in their own way, but Di Canio's on a whole different level. It's certainly going to be interesting. If I were a betting man, my money would be on it all imploding in spectacular fashion, but I've just got this tiny worry that the gamble might pay off short term. Hopefully they'll be on the end of a proper humping today and the feel good factor will evaporate quickly. Aye, but they weren't self proclaimed fascists who had been photographed doing lots of fascist stuff, caused the resignation of a very prominent board member, and then come up with a meaningless, half hearted, orchestrated statement when it all became a little inconvenient to be a fascist.
  2. Carroll leaves Newcastle = drama queens threaten to finish with football. Talk of Carroll returning to Newcastle = drama queens threaten to finish with football. The lad certainly has an affect upon people FWIW I'd have him back in an instant, but not for HBA.
  3. What is the latest on him then, did i read quotes in this thread that sad he's back in training? I've lost track completely and had written the season off? The secret weapon rolled out for the derby? Nothing definitive. Just hope we can get a game or two out of him during the run in.
  4. Reckon if there's the slightest possibility of him playing he'll be risked on Thursday night.
  5. As does the entire Team, especially the other three members of that back four.

Probably about right. I mean, if I was replying to suggestions that I was a fascist, and I wasn't one, the words "I am not a fascist" would crop up, well, almost immediately. Di Canio has now issued two statements without saying them. Sunderland's handling of the whole situation has been quite farcical and that latest half-hearted and obviously orchestrated statement is unlikely to change anything. They seem to hope that burying their head in the sand is going to make things go away.
  7. It's very unlikely now, but considering that the inside of a post denied us twice and we threw away two calamitous goals it's not impossible. One certainty is that there will be goals at SJP in the return leg. Just a shame that due to being cheated out of a result at Wigan the Benfica return is now only the third most important game we'll play next week.
  8. We really need Colo back quite urgently to partner one of the two CB's and provide some leadership.

What the fuck is this? Sunderland council own 90% of it to Newcastle's 10% marra I am quite appreciative of the significant contribution Sunderland council and their citizens make towards Newcastle International Airport. OK so we have to put up with a few smelly, uncouth mackems decked out in their replica shirts from time to time but it's a small price to pay really.

So then. I was a fascist and did loads of fascist stuff, but it's become a bit of an inconvenience recently, so for now I'm going to pretend I'm not a fascist. Err...is that ok for now ?

Hasn't taken him long to discover "macktracking". Tattoos were probably just a drunken mistake too.

They already made their statement on Monday. Looks like they're just gonna try and ride out the media sh*tstorm till the end of the season. Sadly you're probably right , but their statement from Monday is looking very flimsy and badly out of date already.

There's much talk of what happened or didn't happen at Swindon in comparison to what is going on now. The real difference is that Swindon did not have a former cabinet minister and prominent politician resign from their board in protest at the appointment of a fascist sympathiser. That created the big story and all SAFC have done since is to dig a deeper hole for themselves.

What is really embarrassing/frightening for Sunderland is how many of their fans seem genuinely excited by the prospect of having a self declared fascist in charge of the club Probably not a particularly well thought through appointment when they've already had fans charged for racist behaviour this season and Wearside is reputed to be fertile ground for BNP/EDL sympathisers. Someone in the club's heirarchy needs to take responsibility and make a firm and clear statement.

They're gonna need a database to keep track of what they're boycotting before long. http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=771610

Excellent stuff, fascism aside, this appointment is a huge gamble. WOW!

I think it's quite clear from this thread that among our own ranks we've got a fair few nuggets who would have defended this appointment, had it been us who'd made it. There is a difference though in people defending the appointment and people defending the man and what he stands for. A lot of mackems seem to be defending the latter which is just fucking weird. Ultimately if he does well at the club and keeps his personal views private this will all be forgotten about by next season imo. He's just a daft bloke with silly opinions, not a tyrant. I dunno. Seems to me that what the appointment, and SAFC's defence of it, will do is say, "It's fine to appoint someone who calls himself a fascist and does Nazi salutes in public." It validates the idea of fascism, says it's no big deal. And the next time something like this becomes an issue, the mackem example will be there to say it's all right. And it's not. I suppose we'll see, their PR seems horrific though so I wouldn't be surprised if they fuck the whole thing up Probably invade Shetland Islands or something. They obviously hadn't thought through the PR approach beforehand. Their handling of it has been appalling, by any measure. I'd love to know how their decision was arrived at and who was involved. Quite staggering really.

Didn't their CEO issue a statement to the effect that he has not said he's a fascist, and to infer he did is a slur on him and the club? I think they're just making it up as they go along now.
  19. Faro Hotel, right in centre of town, decent, plenty of good bars/restuarants around (local not really tourist) and only a short (400m) walk from the Station.

Even for fickle macums it's quite surprising how many of them have been prepared to slag off their own heritage, turn on "legends" like Gary Bennett and instantly forget their love for Marty, just to stand up for a fourth division nutcase.

I'm not sure he has the slightest understanding about how "soccer" works, but it seems he has been very badly advised by those he consults on these matters.

Looks like he's going to begin by sorting out the anarchists Did he really say that or is it a piss take ?

Anyway, what happened to Moyes ? Did he decide to stay at Everton or was he just not right wing enough for the new Sunderland regime ?

Aside from the current political discussion surrounding his appointment, I commented a few weeks ago, when he was in the News, (can't remember what for) that I couldn't see any club touching him with a bargepole because he's a nutcase apart from anything else. Add to that his lack of experience and mixed reviews at lower level and it really is quite a mystifying appointment.

Indeed, didn't Bob Murray say the SoL was named as such because of the links to mining and the miner's lamp ? Getting very messy down there.
