we all love Bruno, but he played with Paqueta and or Aouar ahead of him. In the National side he has always had more attacking guys further forward which has brought the best out of him. Do we need a defensive midfielder? Sure we do. But then you take the machine that is Joelinton out of the side. Which is fine, but he’s also massively needed for the physicality and pace of the Pl. he covers insane ground and does more defensive work than most box to box.

And I’ll say it on repeat - Paqueta is transformational in how we play. More so than anyone else we could ever sign from mid to forward. He’s the link we’ve always missed, and we’ll struggle to control games consistently. As said above - bruno injury and we’re back to long ball and counters only.

We absolutely need to sign a first choice LB. Priority #1 for me. After that it’s all equal. If we want to progress as a club we need to control games and play Eddie’s way. That means it’s ball playing CB, right winger, attacking midfield.

I don’t really agree we need a specialist DM, unlike some here. I love Bruno but he’s not an attacking mid and he’s clearly most comfortable at the base (See Arsenal at home). I think we absolutely need another comfortable ball player who is more attacking and has multiple ways to create and score. But happy to agree to disagree.

Hardy seemed convinced the Paqueta deal was bound to happen at 50m but Waugh and Edwards seem to refute that over last 24 hours. Waugh saying while he’s a target he’s not a priority for Howe.

If we sign Botman he’s the LCB in a back 4. And probably central in a back 3.

Aye, to each their own. Some good points about Villa pushing to be the best they can be is good for the league - which I totally agree. I’ll just hold some jealousy until we start announcing signings. I really rather Diego Carlos because I felt he was a strong, fast, and experienced CB who could shake up our back-line a bit - however, we stayed up and I really rate Fab Schar in our system. Hopefully that means we really push the boat to sign a Sven Botman-type of CB. I’ve always like Kamara but fail to see how he’d be a good fit for us if Bruno is our main man. Coutinho is class, but hopefully we sign Paqueta and we get our long awaited and long-term attacking midfielder. Mad respect to Villa for getting deals done fast and literally without much noise. Hopefully we can do that more-so going forward.
