Yeah this isn’t comparable to Botman at all. As the deal has progressed it was clear Lille moved the price multiple times. Once a fee and structure was accepted, Botman showed up in days. With this kid, it’s clear the club agreed a fee and the player himself agreed personal terms in Jan; now it appears his agent is asking for above and beyond fees and Hugo is letting his agent do this. How does this show for him that he’s allowing a friend or hanger on hold up a career advancement for whatever the extra pay day is? Cleary we’re paying some agent fees but that hardly shows well on the player and who he keeps around his inner circle. Remember when Rafa said “we’re not a stepping stone, we’re Newcastle United”?

If Pope, Targett, Botman, Schar, and Trips can play the majority of the season with good rotation with the backup defenders there’s absolutely no reason we can’t be looking at 8th at minimum. That’s a very good back line with an ability to defend, contribute assists and get some goals.
