Are a London club's P&L then not really applicable to a North East club? Where there is a different revenue and cost structure based on local economy and/or constraints?
-
London's inflated base of matchday income due to location doesn't help. I assume london ticket prices, while higher, on a relative basis are easier for the local fan to stomach versus that exact price in the North.
-
Yep, like i said, without knowing the breakdown of matchday income and comparing the detail behind it, really hard to get a real concrete answer here. I do think PIF/RB need to show their goal and ambition with an impressive stadium and traning ground/academy plan + any other additional investment to the area and region to show some additional ambition and intent.

I’d love to know what / how an income bridge looks for ticket, hospitality, boxes, concessions etc versus those clubs. But you see my points, I hope. It’s a massive gap to bridge - if that gap is closed up by 30-40m with new stadium per year, then we’re on to something there. think you want to get to city and Liverpool’s level. I don’t think we have much chance with London clubs. again gotta factor in ticket prices in the main. People go berserk any time they are raised.

I agree with you 100% in principle but have some genuine questions… - what is our current matchday income? - what is our current non football income to the stadium? - what is the delta to spurs and arsenal? And Liverpool to all of those? - what is non football income to the stadium at Sunderland? Without checking the numbers I think we’ll never get there on non football income until the city itself also improves in terms of lodging and airport (Imo) and we can def needle at it and maximize opportunities like Sunderland and basically cannibalize theirs and then add more with our growing commercial team and ownership group.

Go back to my post, the stadium is les about the income and more about the outward show of ambition as we grow as a club. The training ground/academy, however, is fucking massive and crucial for our long term growth. We need to be hoovering up all the local talent, have the top rated academy/facilities/coaching and constantly be building that side irrespective of the first team. (IMO). Gate receipts and boxes don't move the needle when we're clearly never going to raise prices to Chelsea or Arsenal or Spurs levels. We need the commercial sponsorships and we need to sell players.

She look like Dua Lipa?

I know all stadiums have their own challenges....planning takes fucking ages for the ones in the city centres like Arsenal, Spurs... Arsenal bought a shit site in 2000 and eventually moved in 2006. Spurs had a near two decade long idea that was supposed to cost 250m and then cost over 1 billion. To just name a few. It would be nice if the club could acquire city-centre land freehold.

Swift's Eras tour didn't hit SOL, did it?

Dare I say, a new stadium on castle Leazes with a roof that closes for that type of thing….

My wife had absolutely no time for the castore stuff, although she thought and still thinks the simple home kits rule supreme. But she’s been all about women’s leisure stuff from adidas - the hoodies, jackets, jogger pants etc. the most recent range she was a big fan of.

I think you have to be realistic on what non European sports can be attracted to the city and stadium and what the city will do to incentivize that; remember you pay to play for that stuff. What concerts from global stars could come? Newcastle is gorgeous, but the hotel lodging needs to improve a bit more too in terms of # rooms and quality. PIF and The Reubens could solve the commercial stuff pretty quickly, mind you. Again, would like to see them say they are building a 250 room 4-5 star hotel in the city centre and maybe even building affordable housing in or outside the city. They’ve got to help the region (didn’t they say they would?)

We won’t get left behind without a new stadium, nor will we without renovating SJP. What the stadium will signal is ambition from our owners because that is a clear question to some “are they in it for the long haul?” It’ll hopefully settle some who are worried about that locally and globally. It’ll also hopefully get more fans in the building which clearly needs to happen. As equal is the training ground, if not more, which is a signal to future signings for first team (+ their agents), the academy development and women’s football team. again we have so many unique barriers to quickly make this stadium announcement that it’s taken this long. And good on them for being thorough on this, it appears the club don’t own much land in the city which is another barrier.

I mean she told me she wanted to get the jacket you bastard.
-
Yeah, we should have a bucket of 15-20m where we buy young talented players and either keep them to develop or loan to championship. hmm...not like that hasn't been done before elsewhere.
-
He doesn't have time for development players if it means they can't very quickly jump into how he wants to play football and when he's probably got a "must make europe" target on his back every season.
-
What's cool is the originals stuff gets the love for just being cool regular gear to wear - my wife will probably want some of this stuff, particularly the jacket.

https://www.footyheadlines.com/2024/09/red-white-benfica-kits-in-future.html Interesting, and I actually would support this -- official home and away kit guidelines from Benfica to adidas. Third is free for them to be creative. Wouldn't know what our main away would be though....

the complicated nature of developing in in-fill urban city centre with listed buildings and a protected green space are obviously the largest issues and most difficult to surpass.

more of a show of direction/ambition whatever the decision -- a brand new stadium adjacent at X capacity and facilitiies will be a show of ambition -- a massive redevelopment and expansion of a stand and modernization of the full place would be another show.
