  1. When Pardew joined we still hadn't fully figured out the Ashley agenda. So judging Pardew at the time was difficult. he is a slimey guy which doesn't help him. That slime is part of what made him a success for Ashley. Bruce was a bit too dour. He was trying to do the Ashley-apologist thing but he came across defensive and bitter at all times. Pardew would attempt to BS everyone and minimise who he would upset. Your Carver's and SMC's were just no good at anything. Your Hughton's and Rafa's were incompatible with Ashley. Too much honour and integrity. Fan favourites but that can't last under Ashley. Most important person at a football club is the owner for me. Everything follows the Owner. Pardew was a middle-of-the-pack manager ability-wise for us but the best manager for Ashley, which made him a bigger problem for us fans.
  2. (1) If Liverpool don't give us our number, he stays and is reintegrated - probably with a new contract with a release clause and a statement. (2) If Liverpool give us our figure. He may end up staying if we can't land a proper replacement (eg not just Wissa, we need someone else). We might panic into a Jackson at £60m but I doubt it. (3) If Liverpool get us our figure and we get a replacement, he goes. I think 2 is most likely. Liverpool get us the figure but we don't land a replacement and keep him, or panic into a replacement.
  3. Apparently Ndyiaye might be sold. Thats a downgrade and a headache for me in FPL.
  4. Yeh the Ashley era defenders have done excellently but we need to replace them. We need to sort ourselves out. The squad hasn’t changed much in 2 years and it’s going to start showing.
  5. Most transfer fees are spread across multiple years. I don’t know why people are acting like it’s a new thing. And the payment method terms vs upfront payment has no FFP considerations.
  6. But they have to be prepared to tell Guehi to leave or rot on the bench. Which they won’t do. It’s Guehi’s choice and that choice is Liverpool now or leave for free to the highest bidder on wages or whatever he’s looking for. I don’t think he’ll sign for us now even if a bid is accepted - which is why I don’t think we’ll bid. it’s the equivalent of Inter Milan bidding £50m for Konate. Konate isn’t going to sign for Inter. Could be wrong. Maybe Guehi feels he owes Palace a fee. But that’s not how these transfers have been going. *I think Yoro’s old team said they would bench Yoro if he didn’t leave which is why he joined Man U. Real were intending to contract wait him too. Palace won’t do that to Guehi.
  7. Might bring Quansah back I guess
  8. Liverpool need to buy 3 CBs over the next year or so. Konate replacement VVD replacement +1
  9. Gimme one marquee signing please.
  10. I expect Man U to qualify for the CL next season. No CL football and a quality squad.
  11. Said this in another thread. The PL money train clubs aren't in desperate need of money from player sales. They don't need the money to avoid relegation.
  12. Almost certainly the player has decided he's going to walk and almost certainly it will be to Liverpool. It's becoming more common. In the PL in particular, clubs don't need the £10-30m just to get a fee. Real tried to get a free backline of TAA, Konate, Rudiger, Alaba Players getting absolutely massive wages. Alaba's finished after the ACL it seems, RM can't give him away, the salary is crazy.
  13. He’s barely played there according to transfermarkt. 4 times out of 126 games.
  14. Titus had pace, was good in the air, strong. A lot of good attributes. There was a reason he was preferred to the likes of Dabizas and O’Brien. I do hope I don’t have to defend Malick in this same manner
  15. Both Elanga and Thiaw would be Harvey Barnes-ish signings. I really like Barnes and I’m happy he’s here. Same with Elanga and Thiaw. But it’s the Bruno G, Isak and Tonali type signings that makes this side special and makes us go ‘wow’ and we’ve not been able to land any players of that profile. We have tried with Etikite and Sesko. I think that comes from having high targets from PIF. Reluctant to take risks. And also a lack of acumen in transfers
  16. The abandonment of the previous high ceiling transfers - particularly for young players makes me think Eddie has ambitious targets to hit next season. He doesn’t want to take risks.
  17. They all had the potential too though. Which is why each of them cost a big premium. It’s fair to say Ramsdale in particular isn’t of that profile. We are leaning heavily on Eddie’s ability to elevate. I don’t think either Gordon or Barnes are too 6 ability wise. But under Howe they are and each have out performed most top 6 wide players over the last couple of seasons. With qualifying for the CL we had wanted more Hall, Tino, Tonali, Isak type high ceiling players. But we are going with high floor players.
  18. He wins his headers so he’s better than Kelly at the least.
  19. Some fans have lost sight of this. There are other situations where the player has stayed. Mbappe, Kane. Far bigger players in the grand scheme of things.
  20. This much I think we know. But at least we are getting bodies in.
  21. It’s silly but I really like that Thiaw wins his headers and don’t like how Guehi is a bit suspect in the air. Guehi is likely a far superior player but I just hate that in a CB.
  22. Enough yeh. Looks to be easily our fastest CB.
  23. I do agree with what you’re saying. There is a part of me that would love to get Eddie some real top talent like a Isak. Under Eddie those players can become the best we’ve ever seen. What Eddie has done with Burn and Joelinton is great. But we can see Tonali is another level. Thiaw doesn’t have that reputation. Although from the little clips I’ve seen I like Thiaw a lot. He seems to have all the physical and technical ingredients. Fast, wins his headers, seems brave, secure in possession, can play a forward pass. Only thing from the clips negative is he seems to go to ground a lot which might indicate a positional issue. But he’s young enough. Saying all of that I was kinder to Bramble than most for the same reasons. Bramble wasn’t shit, he had bags of ability and talent. But wow were the flaws fatal. Jack Colback was actually shit though.
